While we did not have satellite at the S&B we did have a radio - yep radio waves. That was maybe 1 1/2 yrs ago for us. No satellite available and cable ended 1 mile from the house. Only other thing was dial-up but we then got rid of the house phone and stuck with cell.
As for mi-fi double check how much you use. Some don't go over 2 GB while I know some that use well over 30 GB in a month's time and that's normal for them. The largest mi-fi that I know of right now is 20 GB from Millenicom with Verizon service for $70. If you go with Verizon you actually get 1/2 that for the same price from what I understand.
If your cell is spotty then an extender of some sort will be needed if you wanted to that and there was just a new thing from the FCC about them and you may want to check into that since you are supposed to start registering them with your cell carrier soon.
