Anyone Stream Video from Their Cell Phone to the TV?

Most of the RV parks do not allow video streaming, so we thought we would use our cell phone to stream video since we have an unlimited date plan. We purchased an apple TV so we could mirror the phone and tried it, but you have to have wifi to enable it to work and that was not our plan (checked with apple support and they confirmed this).

Anyone Stream Video from Their Cell Phone to the TV?

I can stream Netflix from my I phone directly to the tv. We do experience some buffering at times but live with it.

That said, my son in law ( tech junky) said that he can add a router to the Apple TV and steam what ever is on the screen. We'll see!

I use a widi adapter (bought mine at Best Buy on sale) to do it; it connects to my phone through a separate WiFi direct connection and mirrors the screen using an HDMI port on the TV. Worked perfectly for the hockey game we watched and we had no buffering.

This is the one:
Actiontec ScreenBeam Mini 2 Wireless Display Receiver Black SBWD60A01 - Best Buy

Should note that I have an android phone and a generic TV.

We replaced our stock TV with one a little larger that still fit in the same spot, and it is a SMART TV so it has wifi built in.

My cell phone has Mobile Hotspot, and yes, we have used it, pretty much flawlessly, to stream netflix.

With netflix, dig around and turn your video quality/download quality to the minimum. You will not notice much difference in video quality, but you will have WAY less buffering time, and not use nearly as much data, like 1/3 the data that you would normally use for the same amount of video.

We do that at home, too, since we use HughesNet and it is NOT unlimited.

looks like most of you are still using a wifi system. we are wanting to use phone only to the tv. we can stream to the phone, but can't figure out how to get it to the tv without wifi.

apparently i misunderstood your question... i have an adapter cable that makes tv display whatever the phone shows. no wifi in between. check ebay or amazon.

I have a IPhone and an unlimited data plan. I bought a apple adapter with a hdmi plug and a hdmi cable. I simply plug the cable into the adapter and the hdmi plug into the tv. No wifi necessary. Works for me. Also the apple adapter has a lighting plug so I can keep the phone charging while playing movies.

My phone acts as a wifi access point. There are also usb-to-hdmi cables if you dont want to use wifi.

I have the same set up on my iPhone and as stated before, can stream Netflix but can not stream ESPN. Some thing in the app prevents this.

Can you stream ESPN.

I would recommend getting a ChromeCast to stream items from your phone or iPad. We personally use our iPad to do this. It helps we have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, so you'll want to keep a close eye on your data usage. But is it possible? Oh yeah, and it's probably easiest in an RV by using a ChromeCast.

The actiontec device Vistacruise linked to doesn't appear to require a smart TV. Just the WiFi from the phone. Plug the device into your TVs HDMI port and go.

This is also what we do... never ever had an issue. Have also done this with our tablet (on the same data plan).

OP didn't (or I missed it) indicate what phone they are using, but I just enable the Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 5s and the AppleTV connects to it via WiFi. Done deal. No WiFi router needed. I'm sure Android would work the same way.

Verizon hates me when we're on the road. Then again, the feeling is mutual.
