Anyone tried moving their home Genie 2 to their RV?

I have the Winegard Trav'ler SK-SWM3 in my RV where I use the Directv HR24-500 receiver. Not being able to watch one channel and record another at same time is frustrating. Directv's policy is that no one can have more than one Genie on one account. Has anyone successfully moved their home Genie to their RV and if so were there any hoops to jump through?

I can't answer the question about the Genie 2, but the HR24 should be able to record two programs at the same time, or record one and watch another live. I do it all the time at home. The Genie HR44 is in the coach.

We do it all the time. We take the Genie DVR and 2 of the genie clients out to the RV when we travel. Plug them in, aim the dish and sit back & enjoy.

With your Trav'ler SWM, if you can't record two program at the same time with your HR24 I wonder if you have it set to Multiswitch instead of SWM. No doubt you have only one coax connecting it to the Winegard; if you have it set to Multiswitch you will only be using one of the two tuners in the device.

The Genie 2 as I understand MUST always be connected to the internet. The HR44 or HR54 Genie is an easy move. Just be sure to take your video bridge too if your also taking a mini for a second TV

The Genie 2 (HS17) contains an integrated Video Bridge.

Also, although the Genie 2 has lots of internet-available features (as do all Genie's), I'm not aware of any requirement that it be connected to the internet.

We're currently doing some integration testing on the Genie 2. It sounds like the receiver requires a reverse band LNB to have a certain level of functionality, but I can't speak exactly to what that means at this moment. It may just be lack of 4K content using a non-reverse band LNB.

One thing we are also working to confirm is if there are any account restrictions with a Genie 2 - one of the things we've been informed by a customer is that DIRECTV will not allow any non-client receivers on an account with a Genie 2. Stay tuned and hopefully we will have an update shortly.

I’m sitting in my MH watching TV with my Genie 2 as I type this. Not connected to the internet.

Per DirecTV, the only functionality loss without a reverse band LNB is 4K.

I believe that the principal reason for the reverse band LNB is for "transponder bonding" which, I believe, is relevant only for 4k video. So, if you don't have an interest in 4k then you can use it without the reverse band LNB.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you purchase a reverse band LNB for like 50 bucks and install it yourself?

When I last checked with Wineguard, the tuning in their automatic dishes can't handle the new LNB. I guess you could replace the LNB after the dish does its tracking, but that sounds like too much hassle.

Thanks to those of you who responded--some very useful info. I'm going to try using my Genie 2 in the RV since it looks like it is going to work. I'll also check the multi-switch and see if I can get more than one channel to record at once. Again, many thanks for sharing your experience.

Recording on more than one channel requires setting the tuner to dual rather than single in the satellite set up menu. As long as you have a SWM set up, that should be all you need to do.

Let's not confuse the two things. If he's running in SWM then one coax connection is all that is needed and I don't think the "dual" vs "single" question is even displayed.

But if he's running in Multiswitch mode he will need to connect an additional coax from the output switch to the second input of his receiver AND he will have to answer the question you posed as Dual. With SWM one coax can feed the both tuners of the device, but not in Multiswitch mode.
