diandtom, I wish I could help. We just got Colleen setup on G-Mail from AOL and that seems to be working OK for her.

I messed around with Tbird for a while. Couldn't get it to work, so stuck with Windows Live Mail.

i use Thunderbird mail on Ubuntu Linux.
on Linux you click on edit then go to preference. when the new box pops up click on network and disk space. you can change it there.
if you still have problems you might want to check here at there support page Support | Mozilla Messaging

diandtom,

I have been using Thunderbird for a while on various machines with various operating systems. Who are you using for mail, ie Google, Hotmail, earthlink, etc. What is your operating system? Which version of Thunder bird do you have? What type of Internet link are you using, DSL, dial up, cable, satellite? What is the exact symptom that occurs to give you "after a few seconds the connection times out"?

Regards,

I've used Thunderbird for a long time on XP and now on WIN 7. No timeout issues. I just use the default settings.

Go to Tools, Account Settings, and check the server settings. Change the "Check for new messages every.." to a suitable time for you. I use 2 minutes. I want to know when someone is sending me an email, not 15 minutes from now. It mat be that the setting is to long a time and Embarqmail is timing out due to inactivity.

It times out within 10 seconds. If you are typing it will stop you until you tell it ok and then you got another 10 sec.

I'm using version 2 and received a notice several days ago that they were no longer going to support it.

I have been a little bit leery of downloading version 3 because when I donwloaded version 2, I lost all of my saved email addresses.

How do I save my email addresses if I encounter the same problem when I download version 3?

Thanks,

Ron
