I currently have verizon and have for a number of years, the service has been good while traveling. My question is those that use AT&T do you have service in the small rual areas and the mountains? We travel alot to TN and NC and have had pretty good luck with verizon when friends have no service with AT&T. Has this changed in the last year?

I live in North Dakota, There is virtually no AT&T service here or in northern Minnesota. Verizon sold some of Alltel to AT&T and when they change those towers we will have some AT&T service. People are waiting so they can get iPhones.

I have Verizon and my sweetie has AT&T and by far, Verizon has much better coverage and service both on voice and data than AT&T.

Earlier this year I switched my carrier to Verizon and my DW stayed with ATT as we were planning our big circle tour. We figured it would be good to have phones from both carriers (and I wanted a Droid, but really, it was mainly to maximize our coverage )
As we've wandered from Florida to California and back across through Yellowstone and the Black Hills is that Verizon seems to have much better coverage. As a matter of fact I don't think her phone worked from the Idaho border until we got to Sioux Falls.

Howdy!

Have you gave any consideration to Sprint. We have a Verizon aircard we use in a Cradlepoint 1000 router that works very well. We also have Sprint phones so we have duel internet coverage. Sprint just came out with their new 4G phone which is nice as it has MiFi feature which turns the phone into a WiFi hot spot. I would not even consider AT&T after what I've heard from family members and others.

I have been a Sprint mobile customer since 2003 and recently purchased their broadband internet service Overdrive unit. This allows up to 5 uses or devices to attach to the aircard/router. I have 2 laptops, one Samsung TV, one Samsung Blu-Ray EC and my TiVo attached to it. It is both 3G and 4G. When in a 4G area, the use is unlimited and within a 3G is is limited to 5 Gig per month. Speed has been great except for in Alaska. I suspended the service while we are up here so I don't have to pay the $60 monthly fee. I will reinstate the service in October when we return to the lower 48.

We've found Verizon to give the best coverage in western USA. MT, ID & WY appear to escape AT&Ts 97% USA coverage...........Sprint is worse.
My LW has Globe/T-Mobile. It has better coverage then AT&T.

We recently returned from a trip to Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico. While in northern AZ and southern UT, a traveling companion had Verizon. My wife and I have ATT. I used our friend's Verizon phone several times because my iPhone could not pick up a signal. Same with my wife's iPhone.

The iPhone is worth putting up with this in our opinion, but if Verizon ever gets an iPhone account with Apple, goodbye ATT.

We have AT&T and where we live about 60miles from Metro Detroit our service is poor. To use my cell at home I have to go outside and stand between the barn and the garage. I am looking into switching to Verizon.

Where I live near Cave Junction, Oregon AT&T cell does not work. I have to drive about a mile from my home to be able to access AT&T service. That bothers me especially because other cell phone services work at my house. Delivery people, & contractors can use cell phones inside my house but unfortunately I don't remember which services. I'll say good by to AT&T when the contract is up. We chose Cingular (which changed to AT&T) so we could have non billed contact with our kids and grand kids having the same service, then we moved rural. I've had the same poor coverage mentioned by others when traveling around the country.

Verizon has worked very well for us throughout the southwest. The only dead zone was Lake Havasu City, AZ.

If you pay attention to AT&T's commercials, you'll see where they say they cover 97% of the PEOPLE in the USA. That's very different from covering 97% of the AREA in the USA!
