Attack Ads

So, after installing Windows 10 it seems like I am getting continually boombarded with attack adds. Doesn't seem to matter which browser I use although Microsoft Edge seems worse.

I read the news on line, going to several different sites for local and national news. When I try to going to the local paper the browser essentially freezes up and eventually a new tab opens telling me my computer has been compromised or how I can speed up my computer. Sometimes I can simply close the tab but sometimes I have to close the browser app. Getting really frustrated.

This morning I was doing some searches and almost every site I went to this happen.

Is there settings on my internet security that can be changed to fix this or browser settings???

Buying a new computer will get all kinds of bad apps. When I bought my last computer it had same problems. Someone suggested that I run a program called PC Decrapifier . Cleaned up all the advertising. You may also want to run MalwareBytes.
I use Firefox and AdBlock Plus.

Install Firefox or Chrome with ad blocking. It will be life-changing.

I had been using Chrome so I added the Ad Block app they offer for free. For now it seems to have helped. The worse culprit was a local news paper that I would go to and the ads would start popping up and most of the time the browser would freeze up.

Thanks for the advice.

It sounds like you have some kind of virus or malware on your computer. This isn't a behavior of Windows 10 (or any other version for that matter).

I have that problem with our local newspaper too. It is the San Diego Union that is now owned by the LA Times. Even though we have and pay for a subscription they have so many ads that it clogs up my browser even with ad block. So I now read the NY Times. Now no problem.

I would suggest cleaning your browser by removing all cookies and deleting your browser history.

On my Mac when I use safari they have a very nice feature called the reader feature. It is a bunch of little lines to the left side of the address bar. Click it and all ads are cleaned off.

Get CCleaner, Crap Cleaner, that is spelled correctly. Can't stop them from coming, but will get rid of them. It will get rid of several problems but does get rid of cookies to so you may have to key in some ID now and then to satisfy some programs. Also Malware bytes does some good also.

That's not normal for 10. If it repeatedly asks you to sign up for anti-virus software it's most likely a virus.

It's not Win 10 related. It sounds like moving to Chrome with ad blocker has tamed this down for you but I would also highly recommend downloading and running the free malwarebytes too. You can get it at www.malwarebytes.com

FWIW Also check and see what extra tool bars got added. Several known hijackers are disguised as tool bars. Several tool bars are nothing but browser hijackers.
