I have an analog TV on a converter and a digital ready TV hooked to the same antenna. At times both TVs work fine - at other times the TV on the converter works fine while the digital TV has no audio. Other times, it is just the opposite with the digital TV working and the converter TV having no audio.

It also appears that this problem only is occuring with one TV station. Anyone have any ideas what I should look for or could it be the TV station itself?

It might have to do with MTS/SAP

I had a similar problem with a small screen digital TV (Television this time, folks-- not Tow Vehicle) I purchased my wife last Christmas. While watching a football game, we could hear all the background sounds but could not hear the announcer. It turned out that there was a button on the remote called MTS (Multichannel Television Sound) and when we pressed it only then could we hear both the announcer and the background sounds. The problem only occurred on this TV. I have no problems with sound on my digital TV or my old analog TV that uses the digital/analog converter in my VCR/DVD recorder. All TVs get their signal from the air. In analog days, MTS was used to produce stereo sound.

While the majority of stations use the same sound channel for their sound, there's a few that use the other. Mostly, this feature is used for an alternate language like French, Spanish, etc. I had a lot of fun with TV brodcasts changing the language if they had it.

You might want to review your owners manuals for information on the MTS and SAP (Second Audio Program) features. A solution to your problem might be as simple as going to an on-screen menu and setting the sound.

From my reading, it appears that MTS was discontinued with the advent of DTV but SAP is still used.

Good luck.

I had thought of this possibilty and have tried all my TV settings (stereo, SAP and mono) to no avail. I just don't understand why it is only one station and that it happens to both TVs but not at the same time.

Thanks anyway.

There are several possible issues.. It may be that the station with the problem is "Marginal" since it seems audio goes out before picture for some reason.

And for one reason or another the switches may be doing a better job of connecting from time to time.

I have two analog TV's with converters.. The better converter (Receiver wise) is on this TV and often gets the worst signal... The other TV is not as sensitive in the RF stages but has other features that is why I put it there.
