I received an email from AVG saying they would start charging for their free anti virus protection.
That sounded fair to me so I looked around for another free virus checker. Came up with http://www.free-av.com/

I've downloaded it and I've volunteered to be the IRV2 guinea pig. In the meantime has anyone else been using this?

If you don't hear back from me in a few days, DON'T download it.

Perhaps previous posts have answered my question but I'll ask anyway.
I've had v7.1 for a long time and I rcvd a msg saying it wwould cost me come Jan 15.
I went out to their site, found a download for v7.5, downloaded it, and have not heard any more about the Jan 15 date.
Does this mean my v7.5 will continue to be free for the forseeable future? Or will they still cut me off on Jan 15?
Paul

Nobody is cutting you off with 7.5. It is the most current version and fully supported, whether you have the free home version or the fee commercial version.

AVG 7.1 will be discontinued (not supported) after 1/15. That affects only those who did not install the upgrade.

Hi, You might like there anti-spyware 7.5 free and if you want they have a beta testing site and right now I'm testing a rootkit checker that seems to be working good. The 7.5 avg anti-virus is new and some have not been notified yet. The anti-spyware 7.5 is a free trial for thirty days and then you have to help it out somw if you don't get the full version.

Update: I've been running Avira anti virus software and just switched back to AVG free. AVG found the "downloader.tibs" virus on my system that got past Avira. It came into my system from a trusted email friend via AOL Communicator (one of those Christmas card things).

Thanks to everybody for responding.
