Bad NEWS for Garmin dezl 760 GPS units
I bought a dezl760 and it's mapping was horrible; even after the newest update. A call to Garmin was made, and after the tech (very nice, very thorough) determined that my unit wasn't up to snuff, they replaced it.
Second unit did the same thing, even when using it in Auto or Truck modes instead of RV mode. Another call to Garmin was made. This time, the tech tried changing all of the Height, Weight, Length protocols and learned something:
IF you enter a weight above 3.86 tons, the unit's mapping goes wrong. They have contacted their mapping service for correction of the software. (since the Auto mode doesn't work off of those protocols, it was decided that unit #2 was also defective, so unit #3 is on its way to me)
In the meantime, if you have a dezl760 and it's throwing bad routes, try reducing the WEIGHT to 3.0 tons. It might help get you where you'd like to be going.

Realizing that there are a lot of RVers that really like the GPS units, Think I'll just stick to my Google planning.

Bad news for Google Earth, I don't know how I'll replace it because I use it a lot.

I've got 15K miles using my Garmin Dezl 760...what kind of bad routes do you mean? Mine takes me straight to where I ask.

Haven't had ours that long, but have over 2k miles on it, towing, dually not towing and auto mode with towed max GVW at 9 tons with no problems at all. There may be something else you're not doing right.

Is it possible that you haven't up-dated to the newest version? Maybe THAT is the problem with them?? Here are a few examples of many.
* Trip to Vicksburg. Most casinos are off exit 2. Our GPS took us off exit 5, 8 miles north, then back to casino road, wanting to turn to the river at every dirt road.
* Trips to anywhere north of Gulf Shores, AL, begin with, "....go South on CR9..." Heading north is the obvious direction we need to follow.
* Multiple occasions of the dezl sending us one way and our trusty Garmin2460 sending us a different way. The dezl didn't recognize the third leg of most triangles.
* Sending me to roads that don't exist...at all. (this done on a test going 4 miles back to our home along well-known state roads)

While that's always possible, all three Garmin tech support people couldn't get the units to operate properly, either.
You set your Auto mode to 9 tons? Maybe the auto mode works OK with that weight, but...
...and THIS is from the Garmin tech support guy that found the glitch...it is at the 3.86 tons mark [on Truck or RV mode] that the units don't respond properly. Take it for what its worth.
I'm no pro, but have owned about a dozen GPS for cars and boats and land use and these dezl 760s are the first that have been so spastic and un-reliable.
FWIW, the Garmin tech lady that I spoke with last week is sending me an RV760 in hopes that it will somehow make me a happy camper. I have no problem trying whatever they suggest....but also know that the OP is an informative warning to those that might be getting false signals.
I didn't buy another GPS for good dollars only to have to fool it about weight...that's a primary reason for having bought the unit; to avoid bridges and roads that aren't made for trucks or RVs, right?

We have the RV 760 LMT and have used it for several trips with no routing problems. I did have a problem with the voice cutting out. The Tech walked me thru reprogramming the language and voice and that took care of the problem.

I have over 2 years and about 18,000 miles from coast to coast with my Dezl set for 15 tons and no issues whatsoever.
The only problem I had is thinking I am smarter when she wanted me to get off I-580 and take I-880 when I clearly wanted to go the way 580 would take me. Then I saw the weight limit signs and ended up having to take city streets in Oakland, CA... bad move on my part, Garmin knew what she was doing. Who knew an interstate would have low weight limits... Garmin did.

I had the same problem with the Dezl and just used it set at 1 ton but it was still bad mapping. I sold it and now use the RV760 which also has bad mapping when set to RV mode. I run it in automotive mode and have another Garmin on the passenger side which has more reliable mapping than the RV760. The RV760 has routed us down 4X4 trails and all kind of other crazy routes even with unpaved routes blocked.
