Interesting to read "Bigger is Better" for navigational display.
Eight years ago, I mounted a 17" display upside down in the left top corner of the dash area. Remounted the screen by rotating it 180 deg (Windows 7 the display can be rotated by a command). It Plugs into the VGA port on the laptop that sits on a Jotto Desk. The display is on an Extended Desktop, and leaves the laptop ready for other tasks.
I close the lid on the laptop and when desired, use only voice commands to manipulate the map and most software features. It of course talks back to me.
Almost a true Heads-Up display like the F-16, but in color and larger. Never loose sight of what is in front. Always see the lights at "12 O-Clock". No tell-tale con-trail, only a green bread-crumb line left behind. Unfortunately the speed is lacking and no Gs. Each trip is like a mission. It can be re-played. My wife can pet her dog, read the Trash Paper, or use her electronic toys or search for interesting POIs.
