Best Dash Cam

Looking to add a good dash cam to the RV , want one that's has good resolution HD during the day and night vision , so you could zoom in on License plates numbers etc. Good panorama view out front windshield etc. Any recommendations?

I'm quite interested in suggestions myself. I went to Best Buy a few months ago to see what they had to offer and the kiosk was empty except for one camera.

The clerk said that I would have to check on their website. I was wanting personal assistance and suggestions, didn't get it.

Safe travels,
Mark

I think the key to a good dash cam is to have enough resolution....that you can zoom in at Day or night on play back to find a license number etc. On the vehicle in front of you . I think that what separate the good ones from the cheap ones ......let's see some recommendations of people that have used them and likes and dislikes

I have a Garmin Dashcam 45.

I found that I've turned off the sound. No one needs to hear me cuss at stupid drivers.

The resolution is good, the picture is 170 degrees, I believe and I have a larger capacity micro-SD card installed in it. It's got a shock sensor that auto saves the recording and loops over itself for old recordings. I can connect to it from my phone/ipad if needed and download or view.

I've got it mounted up behind my front TV and have a dedicated 12V plug that is set to a fused/switched circuit so it automatically turns on when the RV starts and off when I cut the ignition.

The mount is a small magnet so it's easy to pop off if needed but we rarely touch it. It does some lane guidance and has a collision alert and if it weren't for those I'd forget that it's even there.

I have two different kinds. A Z-edge in the motor home and Black Box in both my truck and the Jeep. Both brands have excellent resolution, auto start with power and overwrite old files. The Z runs about $100 and the BBs run about $60.

I bought this one a short time ago when they were running a $20 discount deal. I will record in Ultra HD. It starts recording automatically when powered up, and turns off with loss of power. It's really easy to program! I haven't tried the playback yet but I expect it to be good!

I bought several low-cost dash cams that turned out to be junk! I finally gave in and spent the money for this one!

The Aukey DR 01 from Amazon is awesome. Wide field of view, great night capability, small and not too expensive. I hard wired my unit to the fuse box. Try to get one without batteries. The batteries will fail sooner than later.

MSHappyCampers.... I ordered the one that you suggested.

I've been sitting on the fence way too long wanting a Dash-cam so I just ordered it.

For $100 bucks, it will give me a chance to see how they work.

I'll keep you posted.

Safe travels,
Mark

I use Garmin's 66W. Voice activated. Bluetooth so my wife can make adjustments when I'm driving.

Have two KD Link cams for 4 yrs now. Better then the "toy dash" cams IMO.
Requested extra power cord from manufacturer so can move between coach and TOAD.
They have great customer service. Nice guys to talk to.

I mounted a Go Pro on the windshield(not easy) and it has been a disappointment. Their proprietary soft ware is a nightmare and I have not been able to view the results. I had a "cheaper" dash cam in the past that worked pretty well and thought the expensive Go Pro would be even better. Wrong!

Better cameras

I think you will find a lot of useful info here https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/

I have a Street Guardian SG9663DC (dual camera) and couldn't be happier. The best customer service I have ever seen with any product.

Another KDLinks user here. Works great and video is watchable even without their software.

Built in gps that is encoded in the video.

Well worth the money and has worked flawlessly for the past two years.
