I was doing some surfing the other day and came across an article about the best font to save printer ink. As I recall a college in Wisconsin is going to start using it and hope to save between $10,000 and $20,000 per year in printer ink. The name of the font is Century Gothic and this is what it looks like.

Save some ink and all go blind trying to read it.... sure, makes sense to me
ps... the pixels on the screen don't cost any more or less if they are on or off so PLEASE use an easy to read font on line.

My HP printer has several print quality settings. I normally use the "fast draft" mode. It prints very well unless there are graphics involved. The college may be using laser printers, but may have the same kinds of "print quality" settings. Different fonts can make some difference, but most offices could save a fortune in printing costs (both ink AND paper) if people would not print unnecessarily just for proof-reading, etc.

Here is a contradiction:
At work one of our ISO standards (for green) says that we reduce the use of paper. But then our SOX compliance requires that we print nearly everything out.
We use more paper now (and we are smaller, in employees) than we used 10 years ago.
Makes sense, huh??

Lexmark also now has an all-in-one printer that uses 500 sheet black ink cartridges that cost $5.00.

I also understand that Kodak is making a printer that uses the "cheaper" ink. By cheaper ink I don't know if that means the ink in the refillable bottles.

Instead of changing the font to save ink or toner, just print white on white.
Problem solved!
(Many of the memos I would read, and some I would write, would have benefited from this solution.)

I keep our printer set on fast draft fro 99% of the printing. When we need something in a higher quality output, it is simple to change the printer setting to the correct output quality and then back again.

Hee, hee, hee! Thank you for my first chuckle of the day..... that was pretty good!
I'd have to say that 3/4 of the company memo's I read could benefit from your suggestion! LOL!

Another dumb computer question. I am using an HP dv6000 laptop with Vista and an HP C4180 3 in 1 printer. Am I able to change anything about the font and size on this printer, and if so how do I do it? I know how to change things including the color on e-mails but that's about my limit of knowledge.

I don't know anything about your printer. But usually you change output characteristics in the document, rather than the printer. In other words, change the font type or size using your word processor or email program or spreadsheet. If someone sends you an email in plain text, you can change your copy of the email to HTML, then modify the characteristics.
Hope that helps.
