The ruling your thinking about only applies to plans with specific data limits, so Verizon only has to allow tethering (for free) on their paid data plans (where you pay per Gb). It is still *not* allowed on unlimited plans (unless you pay for it). Not many of these old unlimited plans around anymore, so that's why you don't really hear about it.

Straight Talk offer "unlimited" data so they are legally allowed to disallow tethering (if that makes sense). The ruling doesn't apply. It's against the terms of service to tether Straight Talk phones.

I guess that I'm an iPhone fan I've had the iPhone 2 then the 3G , and the 4S and now have the 5S this 5S is more user friendly than the others, so IMO I would say Apple IPhone is the best.

Thanks,

James

Wow. You're gonna get twice as many opinions as there are smart phones...so IMO, I really like the durability of the Motorola products. Kinda got attached to Motorola while using their mobile and portable radios over 33 years in law enforcement. Even carried Motorola in Iraq for a year. But they are not the big guy in phones. I love my Razr M. It does all I need and more. As much as the iPhone.

This is the same as which TV is better Ford, GM or Dodge! Everybody will have a preference for one over the other. It is as much what you get used to as anything else. They all will make and receive calls, allow you to surf the web and have a ton of apps. There are some apps found on Android that you will not find in the Apple store.
DW has a Iphone5 and personally I hate it. Ring is not loud enough for her tired ears, the apps we use are not available for her phone, and to my feeble mind it is much harder to things with like delete text messages etc. Not to mention the screen size is smaller than my three year Droid Bionic

I have a Samsung S3 and very happy with it. I also have a 64gb iPod. The apple products are not as easy to configure the way you want them like a android is.
Costco sold me my S3 for $19.99, good luck finding that deal with Apple. I can get a new phone every two years for cheap. Good luck with that owning an Apple product.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the best on the market, the Samsung Galaxy s4 is about the same only smaller. The note 2 and s3 are also much better than the iphone 5 as far as features go. It really depends what you want it for. I have the note 2 and just got the note 3. I use it for everything, don't even use a laptop for anything other than streaming video to my tv in my rv. I love the notes larger screen because I use the phone to browse the net and write email and post on forums. Androids swype text entry system is 100x faster and better than apples press each letter individually text entry system. Apples have fallen far behind since the iPhone 3 but cheap Androids also suck. I've never used the top end Motorola ones but I'm sure they are great too.

As a full-timer who also works from the road and relies on his cell phone I would certainly give he nod to Android based phones and to Samsung's in particular.

HOWEVER, if you are just a light user (calling people, surfing the web occasionally, updating Facebook, etc.) and not a heavy user (conference calling while streaming data packets to participants or the need for flash or multitasking operations) then any of the modern smart phone will be fine. IMHO about 99% of people are light users and you would know if you needed certain functions and wouldn't be pondering this choice.

Cheers

I've got the Note 2 and I'm wondering if you see much difference in the screen size of the Note 3?

Not really that noticeable but it is slightly larger. Phones are nearly identical size just less wasted space on the margins.

Arch - the screen size isn't much bigger (0.2"), but it's 1920 x 1080 vs 1280 x 720 on the Note 2. The higher resolution is probably more noticeable than the screen size. I'll be getting the Note 3 in about a month.

Verizon is in the process of activating 4G service in new frequency bands. The S4 can receive them as can the newest Notes. If you use your phone a lot. I suggest you consider this in your selection process.

In the AT&T vs any other carrier discussion I'm about to dump AT&T. Once again we are without any voice signal on the north Oregon coast, specifically Cannon Beach. Company provided iPad with Verizon data service has great service. Been able to access data any time I tried. Haven't been able to place a phone call in 2 days without dropped calls. Tried on both iPhone 4 & 5.

Verizon will you make me a deal??
