Bose / Direct TV system driving me insane

From day one I've hated the entertainment electronics set up in our coach, but now I'm at a total loss.

So firstly, the sat receiver goes through the Bose. There is no option to bypass it. For most of the last three plus years the Bose would save the cable/sat setting, all we had to do was hit the on switch on the Direct TV control, the TV comes on as does the sat receiver and the Bose, we were good to go. As of a couple months ago the Bose would default to the TV setting everytime it was turned on, we had to keep the big Bose control handy to switch over to sat. As of today, anytime we hit ANY of the buttons on the Direct TV controller the Bose reverts back to the TV setting! This makes it all but impossible to bring up and scroll through our recorded programs or to even bring up the channel guide, or after resetting back to sat, scroll through any of the menus.

Any ideas?

Disconnect the Bose system. You can plug into the TV directly via a HDMI cable from the Direct receiver out to a HDMI port in the TV. Takes less than a minute unless everything is screwed into a stupid cabinet.

The last half of your last sentence is dead on. No way to tell what is what plus then we'd lose use of the dvd player.

Not true. Most new DVD players also use HDMI outs. So go buy another HDMI cable, connect the DVD out to another HDMI in on the TV. Newer TVs have generally three or more. All the BOSE is is a converter tha takes all the audio signals and pups them out through one set of speakers. If you want to replace the Bose part, go buy one that is similar and replace it. Not rocket science for sure, but it might take you a couple hours.

Problem is routing is anything but straightforward. AV equipment cables disappear behind the cabinet and then somehow make their way into the rats nest of cables and splitters behind the kitchen cabinets, some then heading into the televator cabinet made totally inaccessible without unbolting the sofa and then removing a couple dozen screws to remove the panel behind the sofa.

Your hearts in the right place though.
