Both of my Wally/DishTV systems went crazy. Why?

Probably has to do with changes in dome control programming in the Wally/ 211. The fixed dish or in the case of the travler / mogul have a independent control on them to find and lock onto satellites all by themselves , the receiver does nothing but see all three birds.
. In the dome case , the search and pointing (repointing ) control is in the receiver software not the dome The receiver controls the dome finding and switching channels , and thus moving from satellite to satellite as needed. Somewhere in that “what dome am I connected with and how do I move it “ program there is a glitch.

Ah-ha, the missing link. Thanks very much for that, Bill .
I didn't realize the Traveler & Mogul had a separate controller, but it now makes perfect sense why U801 affected systems with dome-antennas but not the others (or with a fixed antenna).

Does anyone remember:
"Do not adjust your set. The problem is not with your tv, and we are working to resolve the issue quickly."

Best info we have gotten on this entire thread. Makes perfect sense!

Now if the programmers at Dish will get off their duffs and fix it, all will be good. Wait they are the ones that broke it in the first place.

Why does in affect only my dome type dish. Is it just Wally's or like in my case the VIP series also? Is it only manifesting itself in Winegard dishes or are other brands like the King models being affected as well. Does anybody know for sure ???
Disagree. This is not rocket science. I’ve been a troubleshooter if software, firmware and hardware issues since the mid ‘i80s. First they need to take ownership of it -which they did not right away. I called them the day they broke it. Told them they broke it. 4/17/19 version 801.
Sally receiver with a Winegard Roadtrip Mission dish. Things don’t work and then all of a sudden a new firmware and not work!!
Was willing to work with them to help troubleshoot. Their answer to me was “you need a better signal”. My answer to them? Signal has been fine for 2 years and now a new firmware version comes out and I need a better signal!?!?! Have when people read from a script and companies hide the fact when THEY broke it. Shame on you Dish!!

As if by magic, everything is working again today. Have not touched anything. Turned on TV this morning and lo and behold the SCAN window was up so I did the scan and the check switch ran the normal 3 tests, acquired the sats, downloaded the program guide, and now TV. Will see how long it lasts this time.

Really?! You mean it? Can it be?? It's working?

Sounds of anxious running to tv....
Sounds of clicking remotes...
Sounds of impatient waiting...
Sounds of excitement...
All followed by...
Sounds of disappointment and sobbing...

Nope, still shows it's on that dastardly U801 software

EDIT: However, since typing the above (maybe 10-15 minutes, I type slow), my picture has been stable so maybe it IS fixed.

As far as I can tell the Playmaker is not affected by this firmware issue.
My Playmaker is working fine. Hookup my Roadtrip Mission and it doesn't work and get's all those errors and problems

That may be true because folks here have been talking about Wally's and other dishes in this thread but I have had weird issues also with the Playmaker and VIP211K every since the Dish software update.

Might as well pull up a lawn-chair, Don, and visit while we wait this out together.
Are you having the same issues? Looking back at your posts thru here, they do sound similar. What error messages (the number in the upper-right) do you get? I wonder if you're on to a side-effect no one has reported yet .

Unfortunately I did not catch the error message number. We were on a weekend camping trip and TV was working fine then Complete Signal Loss and none of the 3 sats were showing in the pointing menu. Powered off the receiver to reboot and the error I kept getting was no satellites found. Gave up on it and when we returned home, connected the receiver to the rooftop stationary sat dish and it worked fine. Took the receiver back to the rig and tried to connect using the Pathfinder and same no sat found error.
Left it hooked up and powered on and in a couple days it was working again. A couple days later then the same thing happened and now after a couple more days it seems to be working fine.
Started looking on irv2 to see if there was any info about it and found this thread. It may or may not be related. Strong coincidence though, don't you think.

This wasn't my first trip down this lane. I had an old Winegard Carry Out that Dish made inoperable by a firmware change and I had to deep6 it..

Do you know when you change antenas/dishes you are supposed to run a check switch while the antenna is disconnected to clear out any existing data/settings?
Learned that from Pace Dish outdoors in my MANY hours of troubleshooting with them
