how does one hook up cable into a satellite box? I hooked up the cable to the box in the bedroom and get the cable stations when I turn off the satellite box. However, I would like to be able to DVR shows off of the cable local (National) stations so I could watch them later. Any and all help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Satellite DVRs can't record anything from the cable input. Some can record over-the-air digital broadcasts, but none that I know of will do cable.

Scrap the 2nd rate Satellite Company's DVR and go with stand alone DVRs like TiVo.
