My wife and I have been using Republic Wireless for the last 3 years. Both of us have smartphones (Pixel and Nexus 6P) and both have unlimited talk and text and 1GB of data per phone. Bill runs in the low $40's each month ($44.34 last month which includes taxes).
You can get unlimited talk and text (but no data) for $15/mo. Add 1GB of data for $5/mo. And you can add data on the fly if needed (from an app on the phone). You can choose either Sprint or T-Mobile as your carrier. Not all phones are supported, so check their webpage first.
