Can you use a wireless Genie with a Winegard Travlers antenna?

Hi all, we were told that we could use a wireless Genie with our Winegard. After about an hour of trying to hook it up, we called Direct TV who told us that it cannot be done. Any ideas??

What is a wireless Genie? I used to have a Geni garage door opener!

Yes! I have the system in my home and I transfer it to my TH when we hit the road. It works great. You must have all the components for it to work.

Can you please give me a list of the components you use? Apparently we are missing something. Thank you.

You'll need both the main Genie unit AND the wireless client. The main unit will connect to your Winegard, as long as it's a SWM model antenna. Then the wireless Genie client connects to the main Genie unit.

You mean Trav'ler? No, I had a different manufacturer's unit. Same technology though. I did have a Genie and (wired) Genie clients.

Actually, you've left out a rather important piece. The Genie has to connect to a DirecTV Wireless Video Bridge which broadcasts the encrypted wifi signal that connects to the wireless miniGenie. The new Genie 2 has a built-in video bridge but it's my understanding that the HR34, HR44, and HR54 Genies all require an external one.

IOW, I MIGHT have left out a piece, depending on the Genie unit the OP actually has. Yes, physically there might be another box.

This is the second coach in which we've used this same Genie equipment. Our first coach needed some modification, or at least the antenna did, as it was not SWM3 capable but an earlier generation. Once we found someone to do that it worked fine.

Our current coach came with a SWM3 antenna and it was a simple install.

I suggest you create a signature with a description of your coach. It will help others help you.
