I'm wondering if there are any Canadians here who subscribe to Verizon's Mobile Broadband for service while traveling in the U.S.? If so, how did you do it? Is their a requirement for U.S. residency or a U.S. address? How did you get around this?

I will be traveling in the U.S. for 4 months beginning in Jan/10 and want to buy a Verizon USB 760 modem on a monthly contract. Before I actually call them, I would like to hear from anyone who has this type of setup and especially how you went about getting it.

Thanks for any info on this.

I don't have the broadband, but back in 2005, we tried to purchase a verizon cell phone from a radio shack store. They wanted a US social security #. Hubby being Canadian, doesn't have one, but I do(dual citizen). hated to give my number, but I did and have not really had a problem. We are set up on auto debit from Visa-that was a hassle to set up!!, even with a US winter address. When the renewal of the cc came up, it was even more of a hassle-ended up sending a quite nasty letter with the bill payment(by mail). Got a call from a supervisor type, who set it up for me. Maybe their billing process has improved, I would certainly hope so. Thinking of getting the broadband stick this winter for Quartzsite Arizona as service is superb! Dona

I know this reply is not what you are looking for, but I thought I'd throw this out anyway. I am a Canadian who has used the AT&T broadband. You must have an US address and using you Canadian sin # works for the social security #. I recently canceled this due to the new Visa requirements needing a us zip code. I was unable to continue with my pre-authorized visa payment, thus I had to get a money order and mail it every month which was not really something I wanted to do. Also, there was no credit history for me in the us, so they needed a $500 deposit.
Just some tidbit info to watch out for. Good luck eh....
