Wouldn't leave on a trip without it but then again I hauled commercially and it is a must have.

I like to chat at times while driving, taking a break or camping. Sometimes it is still good for local information. I have sideband and can normally find a local sidebander to chat with. The channels aren't as cluttered as they were 10 - 15 years ago.

Is that what they're saying? I find it hard to understand someone talking with marbles in their mouth.

Most are all 12 VDC. In the past there were a few base units that had a 120 VAC to 12 VDC power supply. You can always buy a 12 VDC switching power supply for the radio.
Jetstream
This one is more than enough for a CB.

Ours is primarily used for the 10 weather bands... 4-5 times per year in slowed traffic and ALWAYS on I-35 thru Austin!

I have one in each of my vehicles. You can have a complete CB solution in your vehicle for less than $100. They are CHEAP insurance, and serve a purpose that cannot be performed by any other device:
1) Allow me to talk to drivers close by my location about traffic conditions. "What lane do I need to be in to get by the accident?" CB's couple-a-mile range limit is a benefit in this regard.
2) Allows me to have reliable advance notice of speed traps, road hazards, etc. Truckers WILL tell you miles in advance of a hazard. Piece of shredded tire retread laying in the travel lane? You'll probably know about it well in advance.
3) Allows me to have a last-ditch emergency communication device (No cell service? No problem!)
The downside is all the jabbering people tend to do on the channel. Makes it difficult to weed out the useful information. Some is entertaining, most is just pointless.

I use my 2-Meter ham rig in addition. I get better traffic news on CB but the chat, generally w/o swearing, on the ham bands.
Now, with the availability of FRS radios , I would like to see a standard channel/frequency to replace or supplement CB. These FRS handhelds can match CB for range without the skip that comes thru in periods of high SunSpot #s (like now).
In addition, FRS is FM modulation which means much better readability and far, far less interference (capture effect).

This is a great idea. Many RVers I have seen use FRS radios already, myself included.
Channel 1 is used in some places for emergencies (like channel 9 on the CB).
Channel 2 is used widely by geocaching people.
I'll kick it off:
Channel 8 for RVers traffic information on the road
Channel 9 for RVers emergencies, help, SOS (like CB)
Channel 10 for CG communications (CG owners monitor)

I'M with you. Should work well. I can set one of my FRS radios (everybody has 2, don't they?) on Ch. 8 and the other on which ever freq is in use for the area I'm in.

A cb was installed in the coach when i bought it but I have never used it. I would rather use 2 meters because of autopatch, however the FRS radio idea sounds good too.

I have a Cobra 40 channel in my truck and would not be with out it. My last trip south to AZ while traveling down I-5 by Black Butte Pass in California it started to snow badly and CHP had just closed the Hiway unless you had chains, I pulled into rest stop and was going to wait it out and by listening to CB I found that it was just going to be a short wait.
With out the CB, I would have been wondering.
