Over the past several weeks, I have been exploring ways to improve cell phone reception. Thought I would pass along what I consider very good results.

I have been very happy with Verizon . Allowing that in remote areas, the signal may be weak or possibly no signal at all.

First I installed the Wilson RV Trucker Roof Mount Antenna on the motor home. Results were very good while traveling down the road. When at remote campsite locations, if the signal was weak, a Yagi directional antenna mounted (so it can be rotated) on the rear ladder always provided good cell phone operation.

Possibly I could have stopped at this point because everything appeared to be working well. However, because it is winter here in Kansas, and were here at home having some remodeling done, and I'm always into some kind of project, I decided to look into power amplifying the cell phone operation. Thought this would improve "over the road reception" if and when we do get to far remote.

I experimented with the Wilson Cellular Amplifier model 811201. First I connected an external magnetic mount antenna to my cell phone and received a signal better than with the cell phone alone. Of course, this I expected. Then I wrapped the external antenna in aluminum foil which killed all the signal strength bars on the cell phone. Then I connected the amplifier into the system. To my surprise, even with the antennal wrapped in aluminum foil, the signal bars on the cell phone went up to 4 bars. I don't think it can get any better than this.

We did take a short trip thru some remote areas in a car using a magnetic mount antenna and the amplifier hooked into my phone. I always had full signal with this system. My wife's phone lost signal sever times.

Needless to say, I'm very happy with the results and can't wait to get out on the road. We usually head for the remote areas and I'm confident that if there is any chance for a cell phone system to work, this one will.

I am always curious how things work. "Thanks" to the engineers at Wilson Electronics, for always being available to take my calls and for answering my questions. Also "Thanks" to the folks at Alternative Wireless, (http://www.alternativewireless.com/c...rs.html#Wilson). They always had the "connector , adapter or cable" I was looking for. Very helpful and good prices.

My experiences are the same regarding the wilson stuff. We have a remote gettaway that is 15 miles outside of verizons coverage map and the antenna and amplifier make it seem like you're near the tower.
