We are considering purchasing a cell phone booster for our travels around the country--want to be able to talk on the cell phone even in remote locations. Any comments, suggestions, problems?

Rrbscothorn, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. We have not added a booster for the cell phone but have added an outside antenna for the cell phone from Wilson Electronics. You can run a search on the website by clicking on the "Find" button, type in "Cell phone booster" and unchecking the box for a larger search area. GOod luck in your research as I know there are some good pieces of equipment that have been used and discussed by members of the forum.

Like RV Wizard, we also added just an outside antenna - one for the car and one for the RV. We are full-timers and have found this to be satisfactory in most locations. I suggest trying this approach first. You can always add the booster later.
You will need an antenna and an adapter to connect from the wire from the antenna to your particular brand of phone. We ordered from Prime Cellular. They seem to have good prices and they shipped the next day on the 2 or 3 orders we have placed with them.

Check out Norm Payne's WEB SITE for some good info on amplifiers.
I have found that a rooftop antenna alone will make a big improvement.

We use a wilson wireless amp. A small antenna on the roof attached to the amp which in turn has a small panel antenna attached to it mounted in a corner of coach. To aid our Verizon broadband card I velcro'd the little "tombstone" indoor broadband antenna to the wilson antenna. We get excellent result on bot our cell phone and where we had 1 bar of signal strength on the broadband card we now have 4. It took about 350.00 to make it all work but it does work great.

I attached by broadband booster antenna, (it's flat and looks like a tombstone) to the indoor antenna that is fed by the wilson, (also flat, about 1 1/2 x 5 inches). If you send me your email I'll send you a picture later today.

We're using the Verizon air card and we're overdue for a card update. If you scroll through the Technology section, you'll see several thread subjects referring to the air card.
We also have a gentleman on here that is very knowledgeable on the Datastorm system. Too expensive for what we're doing but really nice if you're a full timer. Bill Adams
As far as cell signal boosters, we have a Smoothtalker that works great. I just installed a Wilson amp and yagi antenna on a friends cabin up in northern MN and it works great. The Wilson amp and a Wilson Trucker antenna would seem to be a great combination. Here is a little reading material.
We have a Verizon cell phone so we went with a Verizon air card. I think Verizon has good coverage in Oregon. You can see the various coverage maps on this web site.
Welcome to IRV2.
