Changing channels when receiver hidden behind closed door?

Our bedroom TV is mounted in a cabinet above the dresser. The TV/cabinet opens to reveal space for satellite receiver, DVD player, etc. Our Dish receiver is in that space, but once you close the door that the TV is mounted on, the remote and the receiver can't "talk" to each other because they can't "see" each other. What am I missing here?

You either need an RF remote (if Dish offers one that works with your receiver), or you need an IR extender kit like Dual Band IR Repeater - Monoprice.com.

How the designers expected this to work in the first place I have no idea.

lsw9658 is there an IR extender laying around the dish receiver? A lot of rv manufacturers will place an IR receiver next to the TV and then have a IR transmitter near the receiver that can be placed on the IR receiver on the dish receiver.

Our rig came with the IR extenders. It's an older sysemt and I either need to get new upgraded Direct receivers or buy parts for the IR setup we have. Right now we just leave the door open.

If we leave the door open, we can't see the TV. We talked to Dish today and they are sending us IR remotes. However, now something has gone awry with the satellite, so I guess we'll be prepared once the satellite is back up. It's always something! Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

I hope you mean RF remotes not IR? Been using RF remotes for years will never go back to IR.
Good luck.

One other thing to consider; the Dish receivers get really hot. You might need to leave the door slightly open to allow air to circulate. The receivers have been known to shut down when overheated.

I probably meant RF. We will find out when they get here! Thanks!
