Changing Dish 500 to Direct?

A friend just gave me a Dish 500 dish/LNB to use as a remote dish when our dome won't work under the trees. We are DirecTV subscribers but I had read the dish itself would be OK with DTV. Now I am being told that because this dish has the Dish Pro LNB, it won't work at all with Direct. I haven't actually tried it yet myself.

Does anyone know the truth of the matter?

I have used a single DTV LNB to receive one of the Dishnetwork satellites with success because the Dishnet receiver recognized the LNB.

The problem might turn out to be that the Direct receiver will not recognize the Dishnet Pro LNB. It would have to be tested to be sure.

Obtaining a used Direct dish and LNB to me would be easier. But if you like to experiment like I do, then you can have some fun tinkering.

If it is a Dish 500 dish it will also have 2 LNB's connected via an internal switch which would prevent the proper reception of all the channels (if any). This could be removed for testing but I would suggest a single LNB dish that would work with either service. They are VERY cheap.
