I'm considering upgrading my Dish Net. receivers. In the MH I use a Dish 311 receiver with a KVH R4 dome, 2006 vintage. From experience I know a KVH system can be somewhat sensitive to the model of Dish Net. receiver it's connected to, the Mod 311 being the recommended and preferred by KVH.

My question is, will the newer Dish Net. 222k receiver work as well as the old 311's with the KVH? I realize the KVH is not HD capable.
Thank's,
Pat

It will work, however only receiver 1 will work. The second receiver operates on a frequency only compatible with the dish pro protocal which KVH does not have.

Just a guess.. But the 222 sounds like it has the ability to receive 2 shows at one time (It may have one or two "LNB" inputs)

*IF* so, and I stress that IF (if not so please disregard this post) you won't be happy with a dome as sooner or later you will want to watch/record two shows one on each of two satellites.. and the Dome can not do that. it is limited to one bird at a time.

Thank's guys. Good to know it will be friendly with the KVH. working with just receiver #1 will be OK while using the dome. I have had past experience with coupling various Dish receiver models to a KVH R4 and even though Dish Techs tell you they won't work, I have found that with enough persistence they will all operate somewhat satisfactorly. However I don't need those headaches anymore. The 311 receiver works fine with the KVH and I was hoping the 222k would also work as well.

As I understand the 222k it is a dual input box designed to independently operate two TV's. I only use the Dome when staying one or two days at a park, otherwise I use a portable dish and would like HD when on the portable dish antenna.

The 311 receiver and my sometimes cantankerous KVH R4 get along really well and I hope the 222k will do the same.

Other suggestions or thoughts appreciated.

Your R4 will recieve HD with no problem. It only has to have it's programming updated to recognize the 129 or 61.5 satellite locations. I would suggest getting a Dish VIP 211K receiver. It has SD and HD (component or HDMI) outputs. I am currently using this receiver with a KVH R4SL 2007 model with updated programming.

I, too, like the 211k. Mine coupled to WG 1000 satelitte and HDMI cable to front TV and wireless HD to rear TV.

That bit about the 222 being dual input is all I need to know.. By the way the "It operates on frequencies not compatable" is not true.. both receivers use both frequency bands, One for ODD one for EVEN if they are hooked to a DISH LNB.. IF they are hooked to a DirecTV type LNB then they use 13/18 volts to choose Even or Odd (not necessarly in that order) Dish receivers are very good at figuring out what they are attached too, way better than Direc's in many respects.

However the problem is.. Be the LNB a single or a dual, it can only output ONE SATELLITE at a time.

Dam! Just my luck. I just checked with KVH regarding your R4 working with HD info. KVH made some changes to the R4 in 2006, the year I installed my R4. SN's 0605_____and higher can up grade to full HD with a software upgrade. My SN is 0602_____. Would cost me $500 for a ckt. card to upgrade.

I have a 211k in the house, I just now replaced the MH 311 with the 211K and it came right up after the ck sw. Not a problem. I can receive quite a few HD channels on sat's. 110 and 119 but of course no 129 reception.

I now am thinking that the 211k in the MH is the way to go.

BTW, if I install a 32" LCD HD tv with a 211k will all my non HD channels show a picture with a 3x4 ratio instead of the 16x9 aspect ratio?

Thank's everyone for your input.

The aspect ratio is controlled by the TV not the receiver. That said, the SD programming will normally have a slightly stretched look when displayed in 16x9 because it lacks enough lines of resolution for a proper fit. Most HD TV's have an automatic mode that will size the screen automatically for the best fit. You may be surprised to learn that not all "HD" programming is actually true HD in resolution.
