I have a netbook with a built in webcam mounted on the dash of the coach for VMSpc and S&T. DW just got a Verizon Droid 2 and I'm wondering if it's possible to use it to check on our dogs while we're away from the coach.
Could I leave Skype running on the netbook and use a Droid App to make a video call to the netbook which it automatically answers?
It could also be a great source of entertainment for us to be able to yell at the dogs if they're doing something wrong...even though we're not there.
Ideas appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick

How would the dogs answer the Skype call? You have to click on answer with video when the laptop phone rings, right?

Lori...that's really part of my question. Can Skype be set up to auto answer from a preselected "Droid" number.
Pusherman... that's a pretty cool service but doesn't provide video and I'm wanting to see if I can get it done with existing equipment and without another monthly subscription fee.
Thanks much...
Rick

I Googled "can skype be set up to auto answer" & got his from forum.skype.com:
click Tools|Options|Calls|'tick' Automatically answer incoming calls|Save
Sounds like you can, as long as you set your laptop so it doesn't go into sleep mode or shut down after a prescribed length of inactivity.

Here's a link to that discussion. One person specifically asks about checking up on their teething puppy.

Rick there Is no way to use skype video on your phone. There is no program that I know of.
now what you can do is set your laptop as a web cam then go to market place on the phone and download the app for web cam.

When I return, I just ask Miya if she has been a good girl. If so, she gets a cookie. She is good. She has never told me she has been bad.
Go figure!

Rick, Wayne has the best idea yet, we do the same thing with our 4 babies, when we open the door, we immediately know if they have been good or bad, and soon they get a "BEGGIN STRIP" treat. They are so loyal to all of us, they have so much love to give in return and I just can't really get on them too bad even if they maybe tear up a kleenex or so. Good luck, I can't help you much with the logistics.

I've never used it and have no intention of doing so, but I have Skype on my phone. If it doesn't do video, what does it do? I have a LG ALLY and use Verizon.

As David & Cheryl stated, dogs are just so sweet and loving. If you don't believe that, try this.
Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of a car. After 1 hour open the trunk and see which one is happy to see you.
(sorry - couldn't resist)

Thanks, and thanks to all for the input. My research last night got me to this conclusion too. Golden, like ours, your phone probably has Skype Mobil installed but it only works for voice calls and not video calls. I believe that Verizon just announced that their 4G Smart Phones are supporting video but not our 3G.... missed it by one "G" I guess.
I do think that setting up the webcam and then accessing it through the Droid is my only option and should work.
Thanks again.
Rick
