Connect HDMI Cable to Rear of Front HDTV to Use as External Monitor
I have a 2011 Winnebago Vista with with a Jensen 32" HDTV in front of coach above windshield. I would like to run an HDMI cable from the TV to my laptop, video camera, etc. so I can use the TV as an external monitor. I know the Jensen HDTV has two HDMI ports, but I can't access them--only satellite receiver component cables are accessible in the storage areas beside the TV.
Is there a simple way to access the ports in back of TV? Is it easiest to simply access the TV via the metal frame/divider between the TV and the storage areas on either side of the TV? Or, do I need to unmount the TV from below? Have anyone done this, if so would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I had the same problem but on another model Winnebago with the 32inch Jensen LCD mounted in the entertainment center. I have attached a drawing of the TV bracket Winnebago uses on mine.
It was a simple matter to remove the three bolts that mount the TV bracket from below and the LCD TV is very light compared to CRT. I ran the HDMI cable through the same opening as the component video Winnebago did provide. Everything works perfectly.
I did suggest to Winnebago that they hook up the HDMI cable. Hope this helps.

Thanks Marvel! I would love to see the drawing.
And yes, wish they would have run the HDMI cable out instead of component in a 2011 unit....

Are you sure they even used Component (Red, Blue, Green Video only)? I looked a little on JensenRvDirect and saw no TV's with Component. It is more likely, either due to being cheap or ignorant, they used Composite Video (Yellow) and Stereo Audio (Red/White). Anything but HDMI defeats HD Video (yes, Component is good but not best) and Digital Surround Audio.
Whether the DVD AVR supports Surround Audio is another question. Jensen's new AWM975 will output the raw signal via HDMI to another device but it will not decode and play it. Iit will only play stereo to three different zones. One would need to add a small home theater receiver or a soundbar with surround and an HDMI pass through. Concertone may have an RV model that supports 5.1 audio to one zone. if the TV has Optical or Digital Coaxial Audio it can be played through a separate exterior system such as an AVR or PC six speaker system.

Actually, all I want to do is use HDMI to connect my iPad to the tv. The TV, has 2 HDMI inputs on the back, but Winnebago chose not to use them. It looks like a simple thing to add an HDMI cable and use the existing path to route it to the compartment next door.

The content police may not want you to connect your iPad to your HD capable TV. If so, that would be the only thing stopping you. My Droid will output HD via HDMI but the content police block all but the user's photos and videos. An app called RealHDMI gets around that.
If you have or can get the right cable and the right software, the TV will happily accept it.

The iPad outputs at 1080p, and looks great on an HDTV. My movies are all from iTunes and legal. :-)

I am a little electronic ignorant so not sure this is an anwser to your IPad needs but I use a wireless (Bright View) HDMI connection for our LED TV in bedroom. Would such an item work for IPad? I admitted to being ignorant on the subject so just asking. I believe such a unit is useful with components other than
TV but not sure of details.

How are you connecting HDMI to your iPad? I have an iPad2 and no HDMI output.

Apple sells an adapter. It plugs into the iPad and has an HDMI port on the other end, as well as another iPad port so you can charge at the same time. Here's more info. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD098ZM/A?fnode=3a

Great idea. Buy an AppleTV. $99. You can hook it up to tv and use AirPlay to scream iPad. Plus, if you have Netflix and the campground has wifi you will have movies. I love mine.

But can you stream to Apple TV from an iPad if there is no local wifi setup?

We have the original iPad. I have the adapter. I have run HULU and NETFLIX with the output through the adpater to the TV. Works great. (1st generation iPad came with unlimited data usage for $30 a month)
