This has been on my bucket list for a long time. Now, I will tell you that the planning took a lot longer, but, the actual mounting was only 3 hours. For that I enlisted a great friend who measures 5 times before he cuts and he is a perfectionist. The detail will follow in the next post.

We own a 2000 Monaco Dynasty that we purchased 1 year ago. It had a 21” Quasar TV that I wanted to replace it with a flat screen. There were a couple of design considerations. I wanted it to be a professional looking installation (my wife wouldn’t want to look at something that was jerry rigged). I wanted it to pull out far enough out on an articulating arm so that I could use the cabinet to house the Dish Network receiver (VIP 622 DVR) and also the external HD (Western Digital 1T) that we off load our recorded movies to. (For those of you who don’t know this, the Dish receiver runs VERY hot. I have to have it pulled halfway out of the overhead storage bin to remain cool and run. I was hoping that the openness of the TV cabinet would allow it to run cool and concealed.) I also knew that I would have to install an IR Extender (Infrared) so that I could control the receiver when it was out of view. In preparation for this I also purchased a Winegard SK-1000 automatic 3 satellite Dish, and had it installed by Camping World. One button push and it looks like an anti-aircraft gun when it sets up and locks on to the satellites.

I then purchased a 32” Vizio (Model # M320NV) LED TV at Costco. It was on sale for $419 and Costco extends the original warranty another year (total of 2 years). The reason I picked this set was is it is only 1.31 inches thick and weighs 21.5 lbs. I then purchased a full swivel mount at Sam’s Club. Model OB60C for $39.99. They use this same mount in the store for all of their TV sets. It can hold up to 60 lbs and can extend up to 14 inches from the mounted surface. I finished up with an IR extender from Logitech (915-000139) and a new Sony BlueRay player for $99.95, again from Costco.

My friend, Jerry, was my main source for carpentry work. He measures 5 times and cuts once. Actually, this time he made a model out of old wood in order to check his measurements and angles. We then followed up with a new 2x4. From removal to hanging TV was about 3 hours.

The TV is not anchored solid, so I plan to pop it out for travel and lay it on the bed. It may travel just fine, but I will not take any chances. But, I can get behind it very easily in order to remove the DVR receiver to use at home.

Careful, flat panel TVs all have a thin piece of glass in them and it is not recommended to store them horizontal.

I made a similar mount for my overhead. I stapled fabric to the back of the trim frame to hide the cavity behind the TV and cut a hole with scissors for the mount and cable access. Easy and cheap. I don't leave the TV in the RV when not in use.
