Windshield Witness' web site gives the appearance of being a US product, but according to Frank of Windshield Witness, it's imported from Korea. The US association apparently stems from their business location in Maryland, a Trademark protection for their name, and the Zoran chip maker being a US company although chip production for this dash cam is largely in China and Korea. Note they fail to mention their important CMOS brand or bit rate. IMO it's nothing more than a $40 to $50 MateGo MG188 rebranded with a grossly marked up price. Beyond my opinion, that's the "take" on at least one Dash Cam forum. No third party reviews. No third party Dash Cam Web sites recommending or even listing it. Ripoff? Research and decide.

Until dashcams become mainstream ( and that might never happen) it is strictly buyer beware. I note that HP is selling a unit that is also a rebranded Chinese camera and no big deal.

SarahW, That's scary!! We've used dash cams for about six years, and keep one in each car plus the MH. Aggressive drivers are getting more numerous and appear to especially like to cut off MHs and leave us a too short of braking distance. Last year, we thought the Windshield Witness sounded good. But, for us, after some investigation, it was a matter of too good to be true... So we saved a bunch by taking a pass.
