We have a Garmin Dash Cam 20. It works well except you have to unplug it when you shut down.

You can get a lot of info here:

I chose the Papago 3 and have been happy with it. As said above, it has to be unplugged when not in use, or wire it to a power source that is wired to the ignition switch.

I just bought one from https://www.citizengoods.com/best-sellers

$95 marked down to $26.99 and free shipping. Haven't tried it yet, but it came with a mount, SIM card, and cords

I've been using my Go-Pro camera as a dash cam and it works fine. Plus when I get to where I am camped, I have a camcorder.

I have the Garmin 20. I have it wired into a power source that is live with Ignition. No need to unplug. I have a 2nd power cord in my toad so I can swap it from one vehicle to the other.

overall, I am very satisfied with the Garmin 20. Works as advertised.

WOW! That's just too good to turn down! I ordered one just now, and got an additional 10% off for being new customer, bringing the cost down to $24.30! Hope it works!

Did it come with a memory card?

With all due respect, I think there's more to buying a dashcam than simply buying the least expensive one you can find. I purchased this one after reading through a number of articles and lots of owner reviews. A key evaluation factor for me was reliability, lifetime and customer service. There appears to be a lot of junk being sold in the marketplace and most owners agreed that this company provided excellent customer service when needed. With over 1700 reviews on Amazon of this item there was a lot of data on which to make an evaluation.

It is extremely easy to setup and use and has an integrated GPS. When you play back the video not only can you access the coordinates, there's also a Google Maps display showing exactly where you were at that moment.

Please let us know how it works between files.
Normally these cameras record in segments, usually 3 minutes.
Some of the recording formats introduce a gap in the playback when the video crosses from one segment to the next.

ALSO, make sure it has a "invert image" option. You only need this if you mount it on your dash, otherwise the image will be upside down. If it is on the windshield, then the option is not needed.

I have a couple of the G1W $50 units, and they are great.
Another important thing is to wire it to the ignition (or a controlled outlet) so it always comes on automatically.

Regards,

Dan

Docj, I agree with you almost 100%, cheapest is not always what it's cracked up to be. I went throgh the same process and decided on the Garmin for it's features and likely, most importantly, the Garmin reputation. Additionally, the clerk at the store where I bought it gave the thumbs up. I have bought a lot of my gadgets there and never had a bad experience.
After using it for a while, I am totally satisfied with my choice. But, I paid a few bucks more than twenty.

FWIW the specs for the camera being touted in this thread don't even specify the viewing angle. One of the reasons I selected the one I did is because it has a 170 degree viewing angle which means that you can see objects coming along side your vehicle. As a comparison the one mentioned by pasdad1 has a 120 degree field of view.

IMO having a wide field of view, a good nighttime capability and an integrated GPS are all factors worth paying for. But everyone has to decide what's right for them.

I have the one that does not use batteries. So far no problems after 3 months. I think the ones that have problems are the counterfeit ones.
