Donavon,

Thanks for posting the link. I didn't realize how widespread the recall was going to be, but it looks like the subject batteries were shipped with laptops from April 2004 through July 2006. Thats a lot of batteries

Here is another link to a page with a little background information that might be handy in addition to the link Donavon provided to check your serial number.

Hi Joe

I should have pointed out that Dell is being proactive on this recall. The other company's like
HP, Gateway, etc. are also having problems but they're not doing anything YET. The problem batteries are made by Sony and may or may not be private labeled.

Not a huge deal but why not get a new battery if you can.

I bought a Dell laptop within the window of the recall, but when I put my PPID number on the website, it said my battery was not in the recall. I guess not all batteries are bad.

This battery recall originally started back in Dec. 2005. I had my Inspiron 6000 about 1 month when I learned of it. I checked out Dell's website then and learned my battery wasn't part of the recall. Rechecked it recently after this new "go-round" and still find it is not part of the recall.

Yes, not all the batteries in Dell laptops are defective, but check the numbers on yours before you think you are safe. I'd hate to see you and yours go up in smoke because Sony put out a bad battery for your laptop.

Laptops aren't the only products with Lithium Ion battery technology that have had those kinds of problems. They pack a lot of power in a very small, lightweight package, and I don't think they leave much room for error.

Apparently the problem with the Dell/Sony batteries is in manufacture/quality control, as opposed to a design flaw.

Anyhow, my Dell 9300 was part of the recall, and I've got to give them credit for making it a very quick and easy process to get the new battery on the way.
