I am going to a National park campground for 2 weeks near Traverse City MI (no cable of course) and hope to find a couple of TV stations to keep me occupied in the evening. Is there any sort of meter that will help me aim the rooftop antenna (Winegard with the batwing add-on) without doing a trial scan every 10 degrees of rotation? I am able to get plenty of stations parked at home 40 miles out of Detroit, both analog and digital. I do have a digital HDTV.

Go to Address
If you don't know the address just put in the zip, nest page zoom out and drag the house to where you are.
You will get the channel description, compass heading and distance for broadcasts.

Thanks. No wonder I haven't been able to pick up any stations there as there are "none predicted to serve the location given". Too far from TC. Bummer. Guess that is why lots of folks that use satellite service.

As a direct answer to your question, there is a new product out from Winegard called the Sensar Pro. "If a signal were available" the unit locates the strongest signal an allows you to accurate point the antenna before running the scan. If you are in a area with weak signal(s) there is also a secondary boost that can provide up to an additional 10db of gain. Costs about $70 and is a pretty easy self-install but will require a short coax jumper which is not included and may require some 12V wiring extension or movement.

There is also the signal finder from King Controls.. Bit different design, but what he says above mostly applies (different price too)
The Winegard does add more gain though and is thus the better product.
