Does anyone know when they started to produce digital televisions?
I have an 05 Southwind with 2 Panasonic TV's onboard. I can't believe that they aren't digital ready and won't work off the antenae without a converter box. Am I right or wrong on this.
They work great on cable and the satelite but no antenae.

Regards,
RovinOn

It wasn't until 2007 that all TVs sold were required to have digital tuners. Your 2005 model probably has 2004 model TVs, and only high end sets had them in 2004.

Thanks Joe, These were more than likely 04 models so they probably aren't. Just wasn't sure!

Your instruction manual for you TV will also state if there is a digital tuner installed. I thought my 2004 Sony TV were digital but they were not. I installed a converter box and wired it from my antenna to my selector box so I can watch digital TV on any of the TV's in my rig--only problem is that you have to change the channel via the converter box.

There are Digital TVs, and Digital TVs

As I recall, they were making digitals in 2005, but my 2005 came with analog only

By the way.. The two digitals.. Cable and Over the Air

The first "Digital"TV's were "Digital cable" ready

Later came the ATSC types for over the air.

In 2005,, They had not even settled on the ATSC standard yet (They never seem to settle those things till the 11th, or in some cases the 13th, hour)

And to add to what's already been said, be sure to get a television that includes a QAM tuner (don't ask me what it stands for). What it does is allow the TV to tune unscrambled digital cable signals. In our travels, we've found a couple of cable systems that were converting totally to digital. Our relatively new flat panel TV could tune over the air digital and analog cable but could not get digital cable signals.

It's pretty easy to determine if you have a digital TV. Just look at your remote keypad. One button, usually to the left of the "0" should have a dot (decimal point.) DTV requires a decimal point (2.1, 12.3, etc.)

No decimal point . . . no DTV.

05 was the year they started building TVs with digital tuners. 07 was the year they could no longer sell TVs without digital tuners. After 05 there was a lot of non digital TVs left to be sold so some manufactures had didital tuners in all there TVs before 07. It depended on how many older TVs they had left to sell.
