Recently installed Winegard Trav'ler SK 3005 dish on motorhome. Ordered new Direct HD receiver (they had a special on refurbished receivers for $49). HD receiver shipped with no B-band converters and the DTV guy put them on both of my stick house HD receivers. Called Direct and they said the receiver I got (model H23-600) does not need the converter.

I'm all hooked up but I am not getting any HD on my Samsung HDTV. I get a good signal and good picture but no HD. The sat dish seems to have located all the birds just fine, all software downloaded, etc. I have checked everything, set the resolution correctly, etc.

So, I'm wondering if I got bad info and the B-band converter is necessary?

You may have the same issue I had with my DTV receiver and my MotoSAT dish.

The receiver with internal BBCs wouldn't work as one BBC needed to be between the sat dish and the sat dish controller.

The HD receiver model H23-600 does not need a converter. (I have one and it does not have a converter.) If you have a weak coax cable or a misaligned dish you will pick up channels, but not the HD channels. I don't remember the steps and options, but you can run a self-test and it will help pinpoint the problem.

I am using the new RG6 coax that came with the Trav'ler so would not suspect that. While the Trav'ler control display shows all the sats, I may not be getting a good enough signal for HD. There are many trees nearby. I will move the coach to an open area this weekend and try again.

Thanks.

Check and see if the reciever is set up to display sd and hd channels. Go to menu then display and check the settings Also make sure you have it set on the right dish.

The HD sats, 99 and 103 are the most susceptible to signal problems.

You can check signal strength via the receiver's on screen display.

The H23 high-definition DIRECTV receiver has a built in B-Band converter that works fine with the Winegard TRAV'LER. For future reference of anyone else reading this post, the newer H24 and HR24 receivers do not have this converter included and need one added.

You are right. We recently bought the H24, no HD channels, no converter in the box, as Direct TV said it should be. Went back to where we purchased the receiver and he gave me one.

I don't get it. Why make a new receiver without the converter built in?

The Winegard works great. We were in the 'back' row of the campgound, a row of trees behind us (to the south), and we were the only rig on that row that could get any sat signal, let alone HD.

Update: I now have HD programming . I did have to turn on a feature in the software of the receiver that displays all channels.
