About to drop 2K on a Traveler HD dish for the MH I have all HD TV's and DirecTV service.

If given the choice where is the best place to mount the dish?

The installer said install in front as long as there is enough room to clear the front AC unit. I think I would agree.

Any other advice?

All else being equal, close to the front is most likely to have the clearest view if you're using pull through or back-in sites at campgrounds. But the difference is really marginal.

I really see no reason to mount it anywhere but in the front.

There is a possibity that your motor home is pre-wired for the dish. Most/many have been for years. If so there should be a decal on the roof indicating where it should be put. Usually it's close to the front.

EDIT:
I just did a Google on your motor home and the electrical specs say it is pre-wired for satellite.

"Electrical:
Battery Power Converter...........Yes
Battery Converter Amps............55
Air Conditioning Prewiring........Yes
Cable Prewiring...................Yes
Phone Prewiring...................Yes
Heat Prewiring....................Yes
TV Antenna Prewiring..............Yes
Satellite Prewiring...............Yes
Washer / Dryer Prewiring..........No
Exterior Plugs.....................Standard
Ground Fault Plugs................Standard
Generator.........................Standard"

Thanks for all the responses. Yesterday I had the Wineguard Slimline SK-3005 for DirecTV installed on the MH.

Reasons for choosing this dish.
  1. Can use my receivers from home and watch in HD!
  2. Familiar with channel line up.
  3. Feedback on domes indicated that most were more susceptible to rain fade and dew than a dish.
  4. Ability to connect 4 TV's . I had 4 drops installed. 2 in the entertainment center for the DVR, 1 in the bedroom, and one in the basement for the outside TV. Yes I like TV!
  5. Ability to convert to Dish Network ( new LNB and reflector) if I ever want to change service.
  6. Stow height is 9.75 "
  7. Locks onto all satellites. no repositioning when changing channels.
I purchased and had it installed at Camping World. Their pricing was very competitive with online retailers. They are conveniently located to where I store the MH and the install quote was reasonable.

I was a little disappointed in the communication during the install. I had asked that, if at all possible, it be placed on the front of the coach. The service manager said it looked like there was enough room so I left the coach and headed home to wait. CW told me it should be ready by 2:30PM. At 1:00PM they called and told me that it would not be ready at 2:30 and that they needed a couple more hours. When I arrived at 5:00PM they were just finishing up and I noticed that they had installed the dish between the front and back air conditioners. When I questioned the installer he informed me that the coach was pre wired for sat and they placed it in the location identified on the roof. Thats where the 12v power was located. The installer also said that typically the roof in this area is stronger to support the install. I also looked at the front of the coach and the length of the stowed dish and the front may not have worked for this size dish so I'm satisfied. I just wish they had called to inform me since I'm not big on surprises, at least negitive suprises!

Now I have to say that the clerk that rang up the sale was awesome and showed me how to save over $150. I was up for renewal on my Presidents Club membership and if I renewed I would get a coupon book that had coupons I could use on the sale. Of course I renewed!

I have to say I'm pleased with the install and very pleased with the ease of setup. I pulled into our campsite last night and in about 2 minutes I'm watching HD TV.

Glad that it went well and that you're happy with it. You're going to love that dish!

Mine was a simple replace the old one. I don't have any A/C on the roof so that was never a problem.

The Winegard Trav'ler does not use ANY 12V power so while there may have been some other reason that they did not install the antenna where you requested, 12V power was not one of them!
With that information under your belt, despite what may have been posted earlier, there is no advantage of any kind to mounting your antenna up front. Front, back, middle, all the same. Some campground somewhere is going to have a tree right where it should not be no matter where the antenna is mounted.
