My receiver keeps saying 771: Searching for satelite signal. I've also connected it to the house and reset everything, same thing.

Spoke to Direct TV twice and still not able to correct this. Any ideas?

You don't say what type of antenna you are using. I do know if you have an older winegard automatic it won't stop once it finds the satellite; you have to physically turn it off while watching the signal meter on the tv.

I'm using a KVH. It worked fine until I went out there last week to check everything. I'm wondering if it is because the receiver was one from my house. I'm not sure if it is synced to the house dish.

I took it with us on a vacation back in December. No issues then though. I've since connected it back to the house and even tried resetting it.

DTV shuts off your signal if the receiver has not been used for something like 4 weeks to a month. Just call their 800 number and ask them to reset your receiver,

When they do this the receiver still locks on to the satellite, you just don't have any programming. Try a different receiver from the house in the motor home, they are not synchronized to a particular dish. It could be a cable, connection or switch issue.

I'm sure you verified that you connected the satellite cable to the satellite input on the receiver and not one of the other connections, right? Do you have other receivers that work that you could hook up in the RV?

I'll give them another call today to reset the receiver. The cables were correct as nothing was touched when it stopped working. Thanks everyone.

You should be able to receive Channel 1 and perhaps Channel 100 even if the receiver needs to get an update signal from DirecTV. If you can't get ANY channels and the setup screen shows that you have a good locked signal, you're either locked onto the wrong bird or have other problems.

You can get an update signal for all receivers on your account by calling DirecTV's service line and, when the computer asks you for a voice prompt describing your problem, just say "No Local Channels". This will generate an update signal to all receivers on your account, regardless of whether your RV receiver is in your local channel spot-beam area or not. I use this all the time when we haven't had the RV (which has a dedicated DirecTV receiver) out for a couple of months.

Channels 100 and 201 broadcast DTV commercials and information despite the condition of your account at all times. You can also go to the setup menu and check the transponder signal strengths. No numbers then you are not pointed at a satellite (or your cabling is wrong). If only the even numbered transponders show up then you are likely locked onto the wrong satellite (or cabling problems).
Since you say you have used this receiver with that antenna previously I have to assume that the 2 are compatible. However, you might need a software update if you have not used the KVH in awhile. KVH tech support is very good so you should give them a call when you are in the RV and have everything hooked up.

It is not necessary to call anyone at DirecTV to reset a receiver since it can all be done online. Resend Authorization

That's another option, but the reason I take that route is that, being a part-timer, I have cell phone service in many more places than I have internet service.

Might seem like a dumb question, but is your rv fairly level when you are using the satellite? I also use a receiver I normally keep in the house and have had no problem.

We had a similar problem in Arizona this winter. Luckily, I had a second box with us and were able to swap things around into different locations and verify that it was a receiver problem. A call to DirecTV and we were sent a new box. Problem solved.

With a dome or most of the automatic open face antennas, level is not terribly important as it will seek its own level. The Winegard Trav'ler can be mounted up to 5 degrees out of level with no ill effects.
