DirecTv H24 - finally got answer

Just spent over an hour on the phone with directv trying to upgrade my two D12-100 SD receivers to H24. When I could understand the operator, I couldn't get a straight answer whether the H24's are compatible with the Winegard Roadtrip T4. Then they wanted to sell me a Genie. Then they wanted to sell me two HR24's. Then they wanted to upgrade my packages. Then they wanted to... Damn, I finally told them to just cancel the order. I had had enough and was about ready to just switch over to Dish.

I grabbed a beer and then called Solid Signal on recommendations from IRV2 forums. Ten minutes later I had an answer and the two H24's are on the way. I know that the T4 is only good for SD right now, but as most folks are assuming, the signal will be migrated to HD on 101 in the future. Surely, Winegard is working on any possible issues.?.?

You got the wrong agent!
I just got my old receiver replaced with an HD24, took very little time. I just told him I was having trouble with the old one and he said do you want me to ship you a new receiver? I said yes and he confirmed the address for shipping and said he was shipping it next FEDEX next day. Strange how different CRs handle different customers. I was on the phone less than 10 minutes.

Just checked Winegard web. Site and Winegard says the dish you inquired about will work with most on any Directv receiver!

I had an agent tell me the same thing. The receiver is in the mail. Thought all was well.

After not getting an confirmation email from Fedex, I called direct back.

They looked up my account and said there was no record of a call or shipment to me.

Then they said they could only ship to my service address. I told them in not there and won't be for months but that didn't matter.

I told them to close the account and he said OK. Then he transfered me to the " Retention Department ". I was put on hold. I guess they didnt want to retain me that bad. I hung up and went to Dish Network.

I received an email almost immediately and I received the receiver the following day. I did have to call them to activate the new receiver and that also went well. I guess I am just lucky!

I think I solved my DirecTV problem. I went to Dish. I called Directv and could not get a straight answer from some non-english speaking person. After a length of time, I hung up. I was trying to get a receiver with a coax output so it will attach to my video switch that handles all the tv's in the coach. DTV killed my SD data stream and the carryout portable antenna would not work with the newer HD receiver.
When i called Dish they were able to point me to an HD receiver they have that has a coax output as well as a HD. seeing that the coach has a travlr antenna on the roof for Dish all is well.. I will soon have Dish in the home for 70 dollars cheaper for 2 years, more programming and a receiver that will work in the coach with the antenna on the roof. Finally!!!

You didn't push 1 for English!......lol......ordered a replacement H24 receiver, got 2.....opened box, hooked up, called for activation....they had no record of me being sent that receiver, so I let the agent hang abit till I unpacked and hooked the other one up.....that one showed up on their end, so it's up and working....then they sent me a box for two, and a return label with new instructions on how to ship....it said post office.....then a week later got two letters with the FedX or UPS way....it's their problem now!

h-24 receiver

I may have had some luck on the second call but shipping it to an empty house wasn't going to help me.

I assume you realize that the signal going through the coax is an analog SD signal. DirecTV stopped using coax jacks when most receivers became HD.

I have a travler that's HD and my genie from the house uses coax. Works fine.

So here's where I am.. I got a new dish and receiver for my garage,, It is th HD 24.. Now when in the set up , it lists the dish that I use for set up in my RV..
At some point I intend to lock onto a satellite in my RV.. then switch boxes and set it up the new box in the RV to see what happens..
As Direct tv migrates HD to the satellites that are currently SD,, is there a limiting component that will prohibit HD reception in the older dishes ? I assume yes otherwise why would the manufactures of said dishes say they don't work with HD ? ?

Some of the very old dishes require a connection to the receiver via serial data port that doesn't exist on modern receivers. Other than that I can't think of any reason why most older dishes won't work.

New way to force HD...got a 721 and needed a rehit. Checked my online acct, the receiver (1 of 3) was gone. Three hours, multiple supervisors, "no way to re-authorize SD.
We will replace all three and dish with HD free!

After 3 hours you owe me something...as a "Pioneer" customer $60 off for a year. I hope the two remaining boxes last that long.

Really enjoying my new Firestick now that DTV is paying for YoutubeTV for a year...HD in the trees/shade, no more Chinglish. Already have a Wally and Tailgator for when the discount expires.
