I am currently in the Outer Banks and am having problems with my Direct Tv signal. I have a KVK roof top dome system. Prior to arriving at this campgrounds I had no issue getting a satelite signal.

The problem is that only even transponders are getting a signal and the odds numbers are coming in at 0. The even transponders have a signal strength of 95 to 100.

Does anyone have any suggest on what to check? I've spoken to Direct TV and tried various things with them as well.

As I mentioned prior to this campgrounds I had no problems with getting a signal and I haven't done anything since the last time I used it.

Thanks for any assistance.

Mike

Have you tried unplugging the receiver for a few seconds, and then plugging it in again? I've had a few instances with my KVH dome similar, and I've been able to reset everything by the above method.

Did you get it fixed? I have the KVH dome also and get the same thing, it is picking up the DishNetwork sat and not the DirecTV sat. Push the button again. On mine I have to push the button 5 or 6 times before I lock on DirecTV. Just keep trying and when you get transponder 1 with signal you are set.
The first time it happened I called DirecTV too. They went through several things with me , but I soon realized what the problem was and just kept pushing the button asking the dome to find another sat.

If it's picking up the wrong satellites it needs to be reprogrammed. The User's Manual explains how to connect to a laptop and program the dish for the correct satellites. I had to do that when I first bought my motorhome - the dealer had no clue on how to do it.

Basically, you need a laptop that has HyperTerminal on it, a cable that should have come with the RV from the dealer, and the instructions in the User's Guide to show the commands to type into HyperTerminal that get sent to the control box.

If you are only getting even (or odd) transponders and not the other kind then

Dish:network Go to antenna pointing and do a CHECK SWITCH

DirecTV, Either choose RESET from the menus or push the RED BUTTON behind the door. (you may need to press the DASH key on your remote 3 times. that is the key that appears blank, as I recall to the right of the zero, but not sure of that)

Two weeks ago my Direct TV with KVH would go into "searching for satellite" and rarely pick up a transponder well enough to lock into the signal.

I thought it was the KVH, but a buddy said he had a similar problem a couple years ago and it was a weak Direct TV receiver box. I was skeptical, but went ahead and tried another box and it completely fixed the problem.

Like every other manufactured product, the receiver boxes can and do begin to fail. I suspect that this is more critical than in a fixed location install.

Try another receiver box and see if that fixes your problem.

All:

Thanks for all of your comments. Unfortunetly I had no luck trying all of your suggestions. I arrived home from my trip this past Sunday and just tried getting a signal in the driveway which I always get and no luck.

Not sure what to do next. Don't understand why I had no problem at all the first week of my trip finding service from numerous locations, then at my last destination no luck at all. Strange.

I just sent an e-mail to KVH this evening and hope to get a response from them.

Mike, not to sound flip, my lamp worked last night but when I turned it on tonight it didn't. Same lamp, same switch, same electricity provider. Point is, stuff breaks.

Mike...I had a similar problem with my KVH. I would turn everything on and hit sat select switch to locate Direct tv, but it would always lock onto dish network sat. I called KVH and although they were not much help...the guy said just keep trying with the sat select switch and eventually will lock onto direct tv. He said sometimes it can take 30 trys or more and he was right. I seem to have the problem though when I have not used the satelite for awhile. There are times before a trip, I will test it out and I will work all day trying to get the signal and nothing. The next day I will try again, and it finally locked on to it.
I probably am not much help but wanted to tell my story with KVH. Hope it all works out for you.

I found that going to set up when powering up I can see what sat it locks in on...it will lock in on my locals channel sat but wont uplink......after it locks on that sat I stop the kvh motion sat and uncable the direct box.......start the kvh up first then plug the cable back in to the box and it will move on to the next sat...give it a little time before putting cable back in direct box.....hope that helps you Jim K
