DirecTV is my vote, but also depends on what dish/dome you already have in your RV. It's really a Chevy/Ford argument, as both cost about the same, receive the same channels, and have the same customer service complaints. Do NOT ask/tell customer service anything about using in an RV... they know nothing about RV setups, and they will confuse you and ruin your day/week/life and you'll be really sorry!!!

Direct for us, just take a receiver out to the MH, connect the wires and away we go.

I've had both DISH and DirecTV and it's a horse a piece.

In general, I'd suggest you use whatever you have in your house.

However, since you don't have either, I'd suggest DISH because it's easier to get HD.

Agree with TecWriter. It comes down to the type of antenna you are planning on using for your rig and if you want hd.

I do not agree with this. When I had directtv they helped me set up my new receiver in MH with no problems. Dish actually has an RV group for working with RV people. When you call tech support you have to ask for them but they are very knowledgable about winegard antenna's and RV problems.

I prefer DirectTv in a lot of ways. I think they have a better user interface than dish. Directtv has the ability to get NON-LocalHD channels and Non Local NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox etc network channels in your RV you just have to fill out a waiver and send proof you have it in a motor home. Dish cannot do that. They made the government mad and a judge ruled they absolutely cannot give out waivers. The only problem with Direct is that if you get the waiver it has to be on your RV system and that has to be paid for separately from the brick and stick system.

Dish cannot give waivers but what they can do is let you call up wherever you are at and give them the local address and they will switch your local network channels to that location and leave your billing address where you want it to be. They do this as many times as you want and they do not charge for it. The advantage to Dish is that they do not care if you take your receiver out of your house and put in your RV same account for them you only pay once. I have dish and am living in my MH for a while and had them turn on local channels where I am at so that I can get prime channels for my Hopper.

Even more important than which to use is the Sattelite Dish. Unless you very rarely watch tv anything other than a winegard traveler is a waste of money. If you already have something else it is worth it to go to a traveler.
If you get a traveler you can use a hopper and have TV just like your stick and brick house. If you get dish and you get a traveler you definetly want a hopper. The automatic recording of prime time and then playback the next day without commercials is handy.

I hope this information helps.

We have Direct at home and Dish pay as you go plan for the motorhome. When were gone for a long period, (2, 3 months) we put the Direct on suspend so we are not paying for it when gone, if you have both on same account you can't do that. With Dish pay as you go program ypu only pay for the time you use it and they know it's in the rv and can change local stations by just calling them with new address.

vote for dish. easy to work with, flexible on programming (pay as you go) and less arrogant. just similar to choosing between verizon and att.

StuartS. Do you currently have a satellite dish? If so what type? If not are you looking for a stationary setup or an in motion setup?

I have DirecTV at home and simply take a DVR with us on trips. Got a DirecTV installer to set me up with a dish just like my house and to setup and give me an orientation on setting up myself at remote site. If there is something on local channels I want to watch and I can't get a good signal with the antenna, I call DirecTV and they change the address of the receiver I have with me to the zip code I'm in at the park. I can then get all the local channels just like someone who lives in that area. Call DirecTV back while on the way home and they change it back.

Most recent trip I was having trouble getting all the channels in my package and they transferred me to a tech familiar with RV setups and he walked me thru adjusting my dish slightly to get the rest of the channels.

I do like the suggestion of going with whatever you have at home.

Had DTV for 10 years and very satisfied with their service until they kept raising their monthly fees to where we had to downgrade our programming package to stay within the monthly price range I was comfortable with.

Last month we changed over to DishNet service that came with a dual HD & SD receiver for home along with an HD receiver for our coach. We now have the programming back we gave up with DTV. Our monthly fee for he 1st year is $48.29 and $72 per month after that. We recently received a notice from DISH that our HD service would be free so long as we're their customer which translates to a savings of $120 a year.

Good luck with your choice of satellite provider......

Sure, it's a horse race for the fixed/house equipment, but for the RV...

Dish will add an RV receiver to the account for $7 a month.
With Dish, the RV receiver can be suspended when the RV is not used and without penalty with "pay-as-you-go".
Dish has HD on even the the most affordable program packs and equipment.

And, getting the network "locals" at your RV destination is just a quick call or chat with customer service.

Best luck to the OP

We plan to order a new coach & do not have a coach currently. We also plan to retire & will be relocating. I have always had conventional cable in my home from either Verizon or Comcast. So I am not sure if when I move I will get cable again or maybe use satellite TV that I can move from my home to my motorhome.

Probably six of one and half a dozen of the other. Both will really make you mad from time to time. The last two times I have called the DISH RV Number, they have given me another number. I don't know if they have just changed the number or if they have done away with the RV service. I wasn't in the position to write the number down.

Neither one is "Outstanding".
