I'm using their service and it's been working until today. I'm in Florida now and my residence is in VA. Do I need to let them know we are down herewith the box? I get a snowy picture and my antenna is tracking the correct satilite.

Abnmarine,

You shouldn't have to notify Direct TV. Are you trying to get local channels? If so, that might be the problem as you are probably too far from your home stations. Other than that you should be able to bring in all your subscribed Direct TV channel.

Good luck!

You should never get a "snowy" picture if you are receiving anything from your DTV receiver. It doesn't matter if you are locked on to the satellite or not. Perhaps you should check to make sure that you are actually inputing the sat receiver to your tv.

Hi Abnmarine,
Assuming your OP is accurate, gut feel says you have a cable or connector problem. If your running through a distribution box, that may also be the cause of the problem.

In my part of Florida we have just finished a week of rain. When we get a lot of rain there is a bit of snow in my DTV picture until everything dries out.

Everything worked just fine when we went to bed last night. Turned it on this morning and nothing but snow.

Suggest you reboot your receiver and try and monitor your signal strength. If you do not have a strong signal, suggest moving your Sat dish to try and increase signal strength. I have a separate signal monitor that I attach between the Sat dish and the receiver. It tells me I have a good signal prior to the receiver. This means I have a problem with my receiver. If you have taken an additional receiver with you from VA and the card is not authorized to receive DTV service then call Direct TV and activate the card. Hope this helps!

I figured it out. Chalk one up for me being an idiot. Looks like someone moved the TV channel off of channel 3. That was why I didn't receive any channels. I don't have an antenna other than the SAT dish hooked up to the TV. I should have checked this first. All is good now. Thanks.

This is our maiden voyage with this coach and we are also new to RV'ing. Still figuring everything out. So far it's been a great trip. No issues other than operator error.

Sounds like something I would do, except I wouldn't find out until I had the receiver out of the compartment and all the wires disconnected trying to track down the problem. Thanks for sharing. I needed a chuckle this morning.

As someone said, a good thing to remember is you will not get snow if the receiver is on and is properly connected. Even if it's raining heavily and there is no satellite signal, you will have a black screen and a message saying "searching for signal..."

I'm well beyond the maiden voyage and still do some crazy things

Our last camping trip I tried setting up my TV and couldn't figure why it wouldn't come on. I hadn't even hooked up to shore power yet, duhhhhhhhhhhh

I always blame it on senior moments.

Do you see any output from the Sat. Receiver box? If not, are you sure your TV set is set to the proper channel (3 or 4)?

Most TV's have a blank (colored) screen with no signal to the sat receiver.

Depending on what is available, if you use a RCA composite, RCA component, S Video, or HDMI connection from the sat receiver to the TV you will get a better picture and won't have to worry about the channel setting. Of course you will have to set the TV to the proper input.
