Direct TV question

We will soon be moving to a 55 plus condo community that does not allow sat dishes of any kind so will not be able to have Direct. Since our Direct TV service in the coach is linked to our home address, I am pondering the implications. For now, we plan to keep our current home on the lake which does have Direct. However, when we sell it and only have the new condo address, can I link Direct in the coach to an address that does not actually have Direct TV service?

Anyone had this particular issue?

Thousands of full-time RVers have DirecTV. You do not need DTV installed at any address in order to have it in your coach. All you need is a mailing address.

You can use your condo address for DirecTV.
If you still want to have it in your MH. You can request a shut off and turn back on 1 time a year. For up to a 6 month time period.

My DTV address for the last 15 years has never seen the receivers.

Thanks for this link. If I am reading it correctly, the HOA cannot restrict my installation of a sat dish. However, it does say that if the HOA owns/controls all of the common areas (mentions roof), they could restrict. While I have not received the disclosure packet, the realtor tells me they provide all exterior maintenance, even roof replacement.

I live in a condo and have served on the board of the association. The law quoted above only applies to "limited common area." This means areas that are not enclosed within you unit, but are there for your use only. The commonest example of this is a balcony or patio that is on the outside of your walls, but are there for your use only. I think a patio would fit the description even though someone could walk up to it without going through your unit. It is still your limited area. The HOA Board can forbid the satellite antenna from extending beyond the boarders of the balcony or whatever. You can put it within the balcony. You still have to notify the Board that you are going to do this. The issue with this law is that your balcony may not have a view of the southern sky (where the satellites are positioned). If this is the case, you won't be able to pick the Dish or DirecTV signals. The board can also, I believe, forbid you from attaching the antenna to the wall surfaces around the balcony/patio. This is to prevent damage to the wall that would have to be repaired when the antenna is removed. Satellites can be mounted on tripods or similar. This will work ok, but you have to be careful not to bump it.

Btw ... even some single family home HOAs won't allow dishes either except for the "limited common areas" defined in the federal law. If you need clarification on this, DirecTV's customer service will probably explain it to you.

Don't you love red tape.

You should have an RV account with DirectTV, not a Home Account, Thus the Home address is just where they send the bill.

Also.. If you have a balcony.. You can likely drop a Dome type on the table and not many will know it is a "SAT DISH" (only RVers and they won't tell.. they will copy)

This is an unattached single family home in the condominium community so I should be OK. Assuming the dish can have a line of sight to the southern sky, I would want it mounted on the roof on the back of the home. It would be unseen from the street.

I am still waiting on the disclosure packet but the HOA management company has told my realtor that the HOA has approved other dish installations. I am told I need to submit a request to the management company who will approve, then forward my request to the HOA for final approval.

In this particular area Verizon Fios and Comcast are very popular so there are few with satellite service. I did not see any sat dishes on any of the 17 homes in my section.

I went through this drill at my sons condo a few years back. We ended up mounting the dish on a tripod on his deck. We were not allowed to attach any bracing to the exterior walls, thus the tripod..

We wanted to install it on the roof behind the chimney where nobody could see it but they said no, so now it's on his deck for all to see.
