DirecTV

We need help....we have a KVH-S2 satellite dome on our RV and have a DirecTV receiver, model #D12-500. We have been told by KVH that we need a low-speed data port on the receiver, which we don't have. Is there anything that we can get to make this system work....?
Thanks,
John & Jan

I believe that you have to update the hardware in that antenna. I believe that this is possible but I don't "do" KVH so I can't be sure that you won't have to replace the antenna. There is a possibility that you could find a really, really old receiver on E-Bay or the like so your antenna could lock on and then use a second newer receiver with an A/B switch to watch TV.

Thanks for the info....may have to take to a KVH dealer or find an older receiver. Thanks, Bill, for the quick reply and information.

Bill, I have two old DTV recievers, They are HUGHES modle GAEBOA. I would be happy to give them to someone. However, I would not like to do something that may be ilegal of get me in trouble. The receivers have the original cards, but I don't hae the remotes. Please let me know if I give them away, will I be in trouble?

You would not be in any kind of trouble. It's perfectly fine and the new owner would just need to contact DirecTV for new cards. You can throw away the cards you have as they are of no value to anyone and send along the receiver to see it they could use them with their antenna. You might want to look, however. As I recall, the Hughes receivers did not have low-speed data ports at all. The LSDP looks like somewhere you would plug in a phone line but it is specifically labeled as something other than phone.

Thanks for the info Bill. I checked and the only port that looks that way is labeled as a phone line. Sorry I couldn't help the OP.
