DirecTV: Anyone change their service address lately?
How was the experience? I’m heading out shortly for our snowbird journey and trying to decide if I want to chance it.

It's getting harder and harder to temporarily change your Service Address with AT&T/DirecTV's new billing system which forces them to actually schedule a "move". That's not what you want because you're not actually moving.
Let us know if you're able to pull it off.

I dial the main DirecTV number 1-800-531-5000 when the auto attendant asks me why I called I state "Change Service Address". It then transfer me to a customer service agent and I then state I want to change only my service address. They then ask my current service address, then the address I want it change to. It will take anywhere between 5 to 10 minutes and it's done. While they are making the change I watch the guide of the local channels and wait for them to change. I also always check the zip code for available local channels on DTV's web site https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/globa...0022#h:573.669. In over four years it has always worked.

You've been very lucky. Increasing complaints in the DirecTV Forums about how much harder this is becoming.

What this thread proves is that there is still a customer care agent terminal screen that customer service agents (CSR) can go to to change a customer's service address without placing a "move" order. I would note the exact words that Ron uses when he updates his address and use them, it may help send the CSR down the right path.

It's been well over a year since I last changed my service address.
While I was staying in the NYC metro area, I changed my service location to an address that is served by stations included in the East Coast Distant Network Service (DNS) family.
I've been as far west as Montana without losing the NYC network stations. I've used my DVR to time shift the Eastern Time Zone programming while out west.
It just hasn't seemed worth the effort to change my service address since then.
The one strategy that seemed to work best when I used to change my service address was to use the on-line chat feature on the DirecTV website. It was usually obvious early on in the chat if I'd connected with someone who understood what I was trying to do (just change service address). Whenever the chat seemed to be turning in a non-productive direction, I'd just log off, wait a minute before logging back on and reattempting the chat.
That's what has worked for me. Your mileage may vary.
Take care,
Stu

I have been changing service locations successfully this past year. The key I was told by direct TV is to call in and ask for the movers department. I always verify that I’m talking with the movers department. If not I’ve had some interesting experiences. Also be sure to request that the billing address does not change. With this process it only takes 10 minutes or so of phone time. The update to the local channels can take an hour or two so I have been making the call as soon as I’m set up at our new location so we’ll have local service in the evening. Hope this helps.

This is encouraging. Thanks.
I didn't change last winter. The winter before that I had a horrible experience. I was back home in VA trying to change my service address back, and they kept sending techs to the RV resort in AZ I had left. I was making up my own four letter words at that point.

Ron I followed your instructions word for word after about 2 hours on the phone still no luck they say it will take an hour now it has been 6 hours call technical support they want to send somebody out I look at the system.
This is exactly the same problem I had last year AT&T has not changed one bit.

Hi Bob,
Have you tried this strategy?

Be sure to use only the words; "CHANGE SERVICE ADDRESS". Do not mention anything about a motothome or billing address. Be prepared to provide the county of your new service address in addition to the address.
Take care,
Stu
