The one thing we need to understand is that when you use you phone to Chromecast the streaming data is done by the Chromecast unit. Your phone sets up the streaming but the Chromecast unit makes a direct connection to the streaming service. The data is not from your phone. I use a AppleTV and AirPlay. This is just a wireless extension of you phones display. The phone moves its display to the AppleTV then to your TV. The cheapest way to do this is buy a Gen 3 AppleTV which you can get on eBay for less then $50.00.

Looks like Verizon is offering unlimited data again. They are saying they are allowing mobile hotspot with that too. Does that mean they are allowing tethering?

Just some comments about using the DirecTV app. Recently I watched DirecTV on my Samsung GS5 phone all the way from Arlington to Austin with someone else driving. I have AT&T and DirecTV subscriptions. No data charges were incurred. When we are camping I can use the GS5 with an MHL/HDMI converter (about $8 from eBay) to watch DirecTV programming on our TV. The GS6 and GS7 don't have MHL output.
