Directv HD-DVR?
I have been taking our my H-24 from our bedroom to take with us on our trips. I leave the HR-34 at home to keep recording our shows. But we have been needing a DVR on the road some now. So I want to get another DVR for the motorhome
What model would be the best to get? I am thinking the only option would be a HR-24. I have the SWM-3 dish setup.

I believe the HR-24 has the smallest footprint of the DVR's, except for the HR-44 Genie. And you can't have two Genie's. I use them at home and they work great.

That's pretty much what I did. I ordered it online from DTV and selected self install and had it shipped. Installed it myself and activated it online. No problem.

I need to understand this better.
Is it true that I can have any combination of receivers I want without needing a second account as long as I have only one Genie in the mix?

Pretty much, except if you have a Genie you need an SWM setup. So any receivers that don't work with an SWM dish are out. Also, you're limited to 8 tuners total unless you arrange for an SL-3 dish and SWM-16 setup, which is unusual for a residential install.

The SWM-8 and SWM-16 will support "legacy" receivers if you really want to. Probably not worth the effort, but you could. I have a SWM-16, and sometimes connect as many as 9 tuners if I connect my Genie out of the RV (two HR-24's and the Genie).

Just save yourself some problems and don't mention to DTV anything about an RV. I keep one DVR at home and one in the MH.

True, but you need to arrange for a non-standard install, and run extra cables. By default, DirecTV will install an SWM dish, not an SWM-8 or SWM-16.

That's why I bought my own and installed it! That way you get what you want, and by doing it yourself you know where to look when things go bad. Important when you are traveling and can't get help from DirecTV.
