DirecTV In Travel Trailer?

Hello all. I need some expert advice. I have been Googling this but feel that your experience will get me a quicker answer. I currently have DirecTV at my house. How can I get that in my travel trailer? Suggestions.....go! Oh, and thank you in advance. Camp on!

If you are looking for HD DirecTV here is the diagram of what I use with our RV. We take our receiver along and I usually have it up and running in 10 to 15 minutes. The components can be bought for under $150. If interested, send me a PM with your email address and I will send you a link to all of the parts required.

I have done this with my Samsung GS5 phone and a USB MHL to HDMI adapter but I still prefer a dish on a tripod. I may use this if only staying one night or just use the OTA antenna.

Another way....I use a King Flex automatic sat dish.....push a button, it finds the bird, scan for channels, and watch tv....I bought a receiver off E Bay for $20 and it stays in trailer....cost for added receiver is $7 per month.....

As an earlier poster alluded, you cannot use an automatic dome dish for DirecTV and get HD channels as you can with Dish. For DirecTV in HD you need a parabolic dish, and an automated parabolic (i.e., the Traveler) is $1800. That's why I have DirecTV in the home but Dish in the RV until my DirecTV contract expires.

That works great when the wifi is good and the cell phone signal is good. This past weekend at a campground in NY both were horrible. Mi ipad hookup to the tv didn't work without buffering every 5 seconds.

Travler is on the roof. I take Directv Genie box and 2 mini-wireless Genies from the house to the trailer.

The few times I have used the DirecTV app on my Android phone it required cell phone service and not WIFI. Never saw a buffering problem. Back in September we were camping in a low area (lots of hills) of Meridian State Park and did not have AT&T cell phone service. The app would not have worked in that case, however, the satellite system worked 100%. With the satellite you do need a clear shot without trees. I have a great app for that called Satellite AR. Also great for tracking the International Space Station.

I am thinking of using Bigbird65's suggestion. This package and buy an HD reveiver. Thoughts? The Traveler Antenna was quite pricey.

Rob, I sent you a PM. Click on the links to take a look at it and compare prices to the system that you are looking at. Whatever you decide on, I have a lot of tips on setup and aiming the dish. I don't actually use the bubble level for setting up the tripod but use a small magnetic carpenters level on the tripod shaft. It is very important to get the shaft vertical.

In our RV I mounted the Power Inserter in the cabinet below the TV. The receiver is shown here. If you buy a receiver rather than take one from home then you will have to register it with DirecTV and I think they will have to send you a card for it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

OK, let us know what you get. In the mean time here is a good GPS based satellite pointing app called SatFinder for a smart phone.

Here is a good app called Satellite AR to help keep you out of the trees. This photo is showing DirecTV satellites 99, 101, and 103 on the upper left. Of course, the view is computer generated.
