After watching FoxSports running crawlers the past few days about DirecTV dropping a lot of channels, I called DirecTV. Yes, they said. Unless new agreements are made, we will lose Fox Sports, National Geographic, FX, Speed, and many more channels on 11/01/2011. If this comes to happen, this will be one p***ed former subscriber to DirecTV. DirecTV has lost so many subscribers lately because they keep jacking the cost of the programs, it's about time they ate some of the costs instead of passing them along when they occur. I voiced my opinions to them and maybe if more people would call something could be done. Just my opinion.

It seems to me that THEY control the situation. If they drop those channels, I will scoot to Dish in a heartbeat. Now I hate Dish w/a passion but I hate companys that screw me over even worse. Now they know how to correct the situation and if they don't, they are likely to lose $millions.

These sorts of disagreements always occur when contracts need to be renewed. FOX is just getting customers riled up so they call D*TV and threaten to quit. It's hard to believe this won't all get resolved by 11/1.

D*TV isn't stupid; if they can't provide channels customers want they will lose those customers. They know that and so does FOX. For D*TV it is a simple calculation--how many customers are likely to quit if those channels aren't available and how much extra do they have to pay FOX to keep them? If it makes economic sense they will cave in and pay what FOX is asking; if not they won't. My belief is they will even if there is a short time during which the channels are not available.

We signed up over a year ago for DirecTV so we would have reception in our coach. After going round and round with them we finally got what was promised by the salesperson--for $29.99/month plus $5 each for four receivers.
Last month we received a bill for over $93.00--the now "standard" rate for the service we were getting.(promo period ended) We cancelled everthing but standard service and now they are going to drop more channels? Our bill still comes out to over $63/month! We will be voting with our checkbook if they drop any more channels.
There is an old saying: "Screw me once, shame on you! Screw me twice, shame on me!"
Guess we will be upgrading to the Jack antenna in an effort to get more channels and better reception over the air and dropping DirecTV.

Not for nothing, but it is not the satellite providers jacking things up, FOX wants a bunch of $$$ for their programming and DirecTV is negotiating for a lower price. DishNetwork went thru the same thing about a year or so ago with FOX and they settled at the last minute. So did ComCast cable. Business is business - higher costs get passed thru to the consumer as higher prices.

I'm as pi$$ed as the next guy, but Corporate Greed is part of the world we live in and in the end the consumer gets screwed.

Looking at it from both sides:

DirecTV says Fox is raising the cost by 40% ...

Fox says they want to raise the cost to what they charge the other providers. They also wanted DirecTV to keep the channels available until a new contract was agreed upon - DirecTV said "no thanks; we use our customers as pawns" ...

These exact same negotiations took place last year (a few years back?) with Dish Network. The same threats and claims were made by both sides. A deal was reached and all was well. I think DN subscribers did actually lose programming for a short period as DN called the bluff. Things got settled. Someone paid someone and we the people got to pay for the increased fees. Nothing new and nothing to get terribly concerned about as it's going to happen again in a few more years when the current agreements expire.

WOW, DirecTV without SPORTS?
Where do I sigh up?

I'm tired of payin' for channels that I 'delete' from my line-up.
I think ALL the sports channels should be bought piece-meal so those of us who hate sports wouldn't have to PAY through nose for the channels we DO watch.

"Holy Cow" as the old yankee infielder Phil Rizzuto would say! You are yelling and hurting my ears! But, you have a good point and I understand. Now, let me get back to watching reruns of the National Football League on DTV.

I agree with MICHIGAN CAMPER regarding all the sports junk. I realize I might be in the minority but I don't care diddly about sports, with the exception of high school sports which aren't ruined by the big money. But too have to pay for all those channels I don't watch is ridiculous.

Whatever happened to the movement regarding paying for the channels we the consumer wants, as compared to what the providers want to give us?

I read something about a year ago of this movement, I believe in California, where they were trying to get a lawsuit to change it to be better for the consumer rather then the satellite/cable providers.

Will probably never happen but it would sure be nice.

I think that the fairest way for the cable and satellite companies to sell their product would be ala carte programing. Why should someone who does not like sports be forced to pay for it. On the other hand, there is lots of stuff that sport loving or adventure loving folks, for example, may not want to watch or pay for. There has got to be a better way.

I left ATT-Uverse because they dropped channels and raised the fee's I'm stuck for another a few days shy of 18 months. I am about ready to drop the sports package anyway. I got it because the salesperson said I would get all of the baseball games broadcast on the fox sports same song and dance I got from ATT U-verse when I dumped Cox Cable Ripoff,

So in a month or so I will drop everything but basic and screw them when my contract is up will not renew. I should have really got wise when I got 3 different versions of what programing I was going to get. And that I was locked into one price for 12 months. (smelled like a dead rat) It went up not stayed the same.

We can all complain about Directv, but even without Fox, it is still a lot better than Dish, their programming sucks.
