Checked my email account yeaterday am and everything was working fine. Checked again at about 1pm and couldn't sign in. A message came up stating suspicious activity had been noted on my account and it has been disabled. Have been unable to reactivate it so far using Googles recommended steps. Anyone had any similiar problems with GMail?

Did get a message once that mailbox was filling up. Had to go in mailbox through Google to delete old e-mails. I check mail with Outlook and it don't delete the e-mails from google. Last time I did it, there was about 4k emails in my in-box.

Yep Wizard I have the same problem. I guess there is a way you can have G-mail automatically transferred to your Outlook account, but I have not tried it.

Gents,
Are you sure there isn't a setting inside of Outlook with a "check box" to leave a copy of mail on the Server? Every mail client I have ever used had that option. In most clients (Outlook is a client) you can specify how long you want the mail to remain on the server.

Try this: (Worked for Outlook 2003 - should be similar on newer versions.)
  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  2. Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
  3. Select your ISP account, and then click Change.
  4. Click More Settings.
  5. Click the Advanced tab, and under Delivery, select the Leave a copy of messages on the server check box.
JC2, Wish I could help with the GMail. Last evening I ran into the same problem on Yahoo mail. I had to log into mail using a web browser. My client would not work. This morning it is working fine. (Voodoo magic.)

Good luck.

You are correct Sgt. most people are unaware of that setting or maybe don't understand it.
As far as the gmail account clear your browser history then try again.

You could also have a virus. Most viruses are introduced now through our e-mails. Update your virus program then do a scan. Hope this helps and good luck.

What's fustrating is none of the steps listed by Google to reactivate are working so I can retrieve my current emails, saved ones, contacts, etc., and being a freeby there is no human that one can call. I filled out a form from Google support requesting information but unknown when/if they will respond. A search reveals that this is not an uncommon occurance with their mail service. This has the potential to be a real mess as 99% of our payments/notifications are done online and info received to that effect is by email.

After logging into your gmail account, next to your Gmail email ID (upper right hand corner) is an Astrix. Click on this and it allows you to select "Mail Settings" When on the Gmail mail settings page click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab than set "When messages are accessed with POP" to "Delete Gmail copy"

That cleans out messages in your Gmail inbox every time Outlook retrieves your email.

Just tried my old Gmail address login and when I entered the verification code, it worked and requested that I change my pw. Did so and everything is back working. Checked the access list in Gmail and it seems someone with an IP address in Serbia had somehow infiltrated my email account. New pw was entered along with other security measures which will hopefully prevent this in the future. Thanks everyone for your suggestions as they were much appreciated.

4K of emails should not fill your Gmail allotment. I currently have over 8K emails and it says I have only used 5% of my allotment.
