Dish 211k or 211Z

Hi,

I have read just about enough to confuse myself. I have a Winegard X1. I plan to use the pay as you go dish plan and I live in Oregon. I will use two TV's and I don't care about watching two different channels.

I was planning on a 211k but I keep reading about heat issues. I'm looking for some recent real world experience to help me make a decision.

I also looked at the Wally but the Winegard rep told me that they have had some connection issues with the Wally and he recommended the 211 receivers.

Thanks for the help!
John

I had one for 5 years and no heat problem. Kept in a cabinet next to the tv and had the doors open when using. The other thing I did was run an HDMI cable from the box to the back tv using the AC run in the ceiling. Worked great. They sell HDMI splitters and short cables.

Wally. Much improved over 211k and 211z. I've had all three. Wally has newer user interface, better setup, faster, etc. Plus, a biggie, is the RF remote - works through a cabinet door, from outside, etc. Much improved overall.

There was a connection issue with the Wally if it did not have all three satellites locked up. Was not a problem if good LoS. But the problem has long ago been resolved in software.

211k receivers run hot, so keep the cabinet open and no electronics immediately above it.

Has OTA adapter built in. Extra cost USB adapter required for 211z or Wally and they run hot.

211ks also have more outputs for older TVs and video equipment. And digital sound output for surround sound systems.

I would also recommend taking a look at the Wally. More versatile and definitely no over heating problem.

Whatever reciever you get, enable external hard disk for recording and pausing live TV.

Yes. It's a one-time charge of about $50.

Thanks for all the help. I will probably just get the 211K and call it a day.

Just a warning. I found out if you use the external DVR in your rv, you can't load it at home or use it at home and try in the rv. Not compatible according to Dish Tec!

More specifically you can't move the hard drive from one receiver to another. If you record on the hard drive with the same receiver you can move it back and forth between home and rv.

As a previous user of both, you don’t want either. You want the newer Wally receiver. It has a RF remote - far superior to the IF. And, you can add a HD dive if you want.

I have the 211Z and the Wally. No heat problems with the Z. Prefer the Wally.

I stuck with the 211K for the built-in off the air module.

Mine ran hot then I install this fan with speed control. I just plugged it in the back of the Dish 211k now it is cool all the time.
