Dish 211k receiver - pass-through when off?

I connect my Tailgater to the cable TV connector in the coach's equipment bay, which in turn connects to the SAT IN on the 211k receiver, and a regular analog TV is connected to the TV OUT of the 211k receiver. This works fine.

But what if I am at a RV park that provides cable service - and I plug the park's cable service into the cable TV connector in the coach's equipment bay (instead of the Tailgater)? If the 211k is powered off (either turned off or unplugged from 120v outlet) - does the cable TV signal get passed through to the TV?

I see a couple mentions of pass-through via Googling, but don't find anything specific or in the 211k manual.

Yes, that is how the pass-through works...but with the set-up you describe - you know - the COAX from the bin has to be moved over to the TV-in jack from the SAT Dish-in jack on the back of the 211k...right?

Only thing I haven't checked is the unplugged test.

Can check and post later.

Safe travels

By TV-in jack do you mean the OTA jack on the 211k?

Yes...the SAT-in jack is reading 90-2300 MHz. The TV in jack is reading 50-65Mhz. The two different paths do not flow to well together.

There is a diagram in the ViP-211k's manual to explain.

Best of luck

OK, then I should be able to place an A/B switch in the line coming in from the equipment bay, with one output going to the SAT IN and the other output to the OTA IN. Thus allowing easy selection of the appropriate 211k input for the source (park cable TV or Tailgater) connected to the equipment bay.

Yes, BUT be sure your new switch is a simple mechanical A/B switch...no amp, no auto switch-over. Keep it very simple or the SAT signal won't flow. Because they are usually made for OTA or Cable TV, many of these COAX/RF switches have circuitry that messes with the SAT freqs.

See this thread, talking about this exact topic:

This is good information and one should be aware of the switch capabilities. Most are not designed for the Sat sig freq's. If in doubt try to call the switch mfgr. and I think most will tell you their product is not designed for your application. Mechanical/Manual a/b's are usually ok. But ???.

Over the past weekend I connected in a A/B switchbox - and the pass-through works just fine. The OTA input gets passed through to the TV out when the 211k is turned off. Works perfect.

Thanks all!
